Utilizing qualitative research with six new church development pastors, this project explores how a Reformed understanding of Sabbath calls into question their theology, and their understanding of rest and time. This mission of God, or missio Dei, is reflected in Jesus' Great Commission for his disciples to go and make other disciples. The launching of new churches needs to reflect this mandate for evangelism and be an expression of God's own missionary nature. In this report is a case study of three larger membership Presbyterian churches in Dallas, Texas, whose launches reveal some common markers discovered through historical resources and interviews with the founders. Larger membership churches have particular gifts for launching larger membership new church developments (NCD's). This legacy encourages the launch of another larger membership NCD after contemporary adjustments are made to the missiology of these previous styles of NCD. Then, using Percept data an analysis is made that will show how Frisco, Texas, north of Dallas, is a likely place for the next larger membership NCD. This idea has been tested in a public presentation and from it shows how an NCD in Frisco can be an expression of God's missionary nature."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129065146548224,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:46.799Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:02:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7ad68b5d-c0c1-40ca-bf77-0e832dce2692","accessControl_ssim":["c6acff75-04ef-4ab0-8f8f-847fd837a53e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Eucharist in exile: sacramental celebration for the sake of the world"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:58:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:45:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2c1fc49c-9c51-468c-9c4a-e05f5ffd7f05"],"hasLease_ssim":["e74ac5b2-e744-43c9-b911-06874e58a6f3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Gunsalus González"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William O Gafkjen"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Lord's Supper"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The movement of mainline churches toward the margins of cultural and societal influence has created a missional situation for the North American church. Saarinen and its author's subsequent suggestion for revitalization. In so doing, she hopes to discover 1) the congregation's kairos moments, 2) implications for present and future ministries, and 3) how her ministerial gifts can best be used. The project necessarily explored the difference between 'chronos' history and 'kairos' history and the definition of 'testimony' and 'witness' in terms of Post-modern Christianity and 'exile' images. The congregation was interviewed and surveyed in both group and individual settings over a period of 2 1/2 years by both an interim pastor and the new pastor. The subjective data gathered was explored along with recurring themes from the pastor's journal. A panel of pastor peers reviewed the work and found it to be consistent with their knowledge of and work with this particular congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129888027049984,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:51.559Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:46:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1904bfdd-b2a4-4293-b99d-f74327615420","accessControl_ssim":["e64ff639-247a-45f4-a6f3-988fef8ed85b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving from houseguest to family member: glimmers of transformation through mission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0f72a8d8-6783-4848-9f6a-825db9ca9b1c"],"hasLease_ssim":["e36c98cf-f6d9-4b6e-90c8-01889e4dc70e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles L Campbell"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janet Nolting Carter"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Service (Theology)","Intercultural communication","Counterculture"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many churches have become 'places where' things happen.
