This project focuses upon the value of funeral sermons that integrate personal stories with biblical proclamation. Why this is important and how this can be done are both explored, along with practical suggestions for gathering stories through carefully facilitated family interaction and active listening. Surveys, interviews, observation and experience are utilized along with research regarding appropriate homiletic usage of these stories. This project discusses some cultural issues underlying those debates and describes an experiment in seeking to revitalize Reformed worship through personal piety among church leaders within a particular congregation. Characteristics of culture and worship at the beginning of the twenty-first century are explored and contrasted with characteristics of Christian worship that intentionally seeks to embody an alternative culture. Very often the response and attempts to resolve congregational conflict exacerbates the situation. This project thus focuses on a particular congregation, the issues that it faced during a recent episode of conflict, and attempts to achieve transformation, healing, and reconciliation. The congregation is analyzed using a family systems approach. The development and the application of a strategy to achieve the three-fold goal are explored. This strategy is guided by a school of conflict management called Conflict Transformation. This project explores the validity of the claims of this method when applied in the Jamaican context. Redevelopment provides a program for encountering the reasons and discovering the means of change. This project names what else is necessary for a thorough spiritual and physical transformation of congregations to become the church in mission and ministry as reformed by God. Biblical exegesis, theological exploration of convictional experiences and the function and patterns of conflict and crisis are explored in relation to redevelopment case studies. After first exploring the loss of lament and the resulting consequences, the project proposes a homiletic of story weaving, as a relational, collaborative, organic method. This collaborative methodology is then utilized in the preparation of three sermons on biblical texts of lament.
