Based on the history of race relations and civil rights in Birmingham as well as the history of the two congregations, the project demonstrates that in relations between congregations each needs to learn about the other in order to find understanding, acceptance, cooperation, and sharing. Based on historical analysis of Southern Baptist worship traditions and church growth materials offering sociological perspectives on worship planning for diverse populations, the project convenes a four-session workshop for core leaders of the church, concentrating on biblical, historical, theological, and cultural influences on corporate worship. Workshop participants then design four worship services based on what they have learned.
