She used the 'Three Zone Model of Missional Leadership' and 'The Missional Change Model' by Roxburgh and Romanuk in a process of participatory action research. Attention was paid to the role that renewal of baptismal identity and worship play in helping a congregation transition toward missional identity. With appropriate resources, transition can prepare a congregation for the Spirit's transformative work."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127861400174592,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:50:38.817Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:14:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:17:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9315906-4aac-4a49-aa04-c540ec319980","accessControl_ssim":["cf2593f8-18eb-4779-8aca-8ad81db9cb88"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Role-playing as a component of Presbyterian elder training: integrating person, polity, and practice"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:14:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:20:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["81e8a881-e180-4176-bf0a-b6fdc5441226"],"hasLease_ssim":["fc3b2c37-0553-4a69-8478-2a971a7c7d25"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dent C Davis"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ruth M Hempel"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church officers","Christian education of adults","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Elders (Church officers)","Church work","Role playing","Government"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In the polity of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) elders are entrusted with significant responsibilities, but unlike ministers, do not have required internships or other forms of experiential learning. Traditional didactic classroom instruction is not always sufficient, because it does not provide an opportunity for elders to apply what they have learned. To compensate for this lack of experiential learning, role-play was incorporated into elder training in a particular congregation, resulting in the conclusion that role-play is a useful training tool in certain situations. After reviewing an alternative model of Christian missionary, the critical distinction between missions and missio Dei, and cross-cultural diffusion of Christianity, themes drawn from interviews with students are presented, as well as student perceptions of the impact of studying abroad on their faith.
