Not only can it keep us from making wise decisions, it can set up a pattern that leaves us unable to make any decisions at all.  This paper seeks to explore some ways in which to understand this problem and suggests that one way to overcome this problem is through the employment of an active imagination. A hypothesis that the use of singular or plural pronouns in corporate prayer would effect the degree to which the participant experienced forgiveness was tested.  A questionnaire developed by James Emerson, and modified for this study, was used to collect data.  The research suggests the need for a rite of passage for persons who make a public profession of faith and become members of the church. The author developed a class to foster greater respect among chaplains by deepening their understanding of spiritual development and show how that understanding affects the practice of accommodating various faith groups. After first examining traditional assumptions of authority, the project turns to feminist theologians who offer a different paradigm. The research focuses on six clergywomen serving as pastors/heads of staff in large membership congregations in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and considers how they, as women, embody and exercise authority using a model of partnership rather than the hierarchical model to which the church has been accustomed. This dissertation takes a critical look at important social and demographic factors within the community and against the background of biblical and theological principles, establishes a unique and workable model of ministry. The thesis is that sexual abuse negatively affects a little girl's imagery of God and her self-esteem, but ultimately is not the final determiner of how she relates to God or how she views herself. No specialized denominational resources currently exist to help these at-risk churches.  This dissertation documents the conception and experimental use with a case congregation, of a 'pre-mission' parish consultation model along with the model's evaluation and proposed revisions.  Furthermore this model is described here so as to make it available to other parish professionals for their critique, use and further development. With the realization that the mission of the church must be both prophetic and contextual, these Models of Mission confront the evil of racism by Word and deed, thereby effecting reconciliation for those who have suffered the evil of racism.  Those involved in these Models of Mission fulfill the call to serve as 'Ambassadors for Christ' as outlined in II Corinthians, 5:20.
