Two instruments were developed to measure this: a qualitative focus group study and a quantitative survey. What makes these churches safe and welcoming for those seeking to gain victory over same-sex attractions and behaviors? And second, to convince church leaders that our churches need to become the kind of churches that are effective in ministering to male homosexual strugglers. A confidential survey methodology was used in asking both male strugglers and active church members their perspective on their church's attitudes and actions as it related to ministering to and discipling male strugglers. The participating churches were chosen based upon the entire church body having embraced the ministry to those who were struggling and desiring assistance out of homosexuality or same-sex attraction. The churches were located in Texas, Indiana, and Virginia. The results of this study highlight that effective churches are: 1) welcoming and safe environments for those who are seeking assistance out of homosexuality, 2) exhibiting an attitude of equality throughout the congregation that the sin of homosexuality is treated as a sin not the greatest sin, 3) demonstrating empathy by a variety of church members engaged in relationship with strugglers counseling them to a place of holiness through discipleship, and that those churches 4) are committed to the equipping and training of heterosexual men to minister alongside each of the strugglers. Results were validated by the survey answers provided by the male strugglers as compared with active church members. In summary, the study brings to light that effective churches have created a welcoming and safe culture by demonstrating equality, empathy, engagement and education in its ministry to male homosexual strugglers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129833399386112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:21:59.461Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"276a5683-2444-4e6f-89d6-6bce055a1a4c","accessControl_ssim":["6aee0237-cfda-4b3d-bcc4-3c630527046e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Case studies of the challenges faced by selected churches in establishing church based Bible institutes"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:17:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ee1b8aa4-2ae6-4d52-b21c-614a8017ac52"],"hasLease_ssim":["6c6c4a57-c032-42a6-afcc-129e27657993"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["George M Hillman"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard C Dodson"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christian universities and colleges--Administration","Church management","Church colleges","Bible--Study","Christian education of adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this research was to identify the challenges faced by three churches that established Bible institutes as part of their church ministry and to report how these churches overcame those challenges. This dissertation is divided into three main parts. A literature review examines what has been written about the founding of other Bible institutes along with the Bible institutes' contribution to the discipleship process. The research procedure defines the case study subject selection process and criteria. It also describes the survey questionnaire and its use. The case studies report the information gathered primarily through first hand interviews and local archival church records. The data was recorded, reviewed and reported so that any church that wishes to start a Bible institute may use this dissertation as a guide to address and overcome the challenges they may face. This project concluded that Bible institutes can contribute to a church's discipleship program. Participants can get a thorough and meaningful exposure to the Word of God, which, in turn, helps in their personal spiritual growth and ministry preparedness. Future research is welcomed in this field. Though an ample body of literature exists concerning the history of Bible institutes and Christian education as a whole, little information has been written that specifically addresses the challenges faced by churches starting Bible institutes and how those challenges were overcome. This research makes an original contribution in this area by identifying those challenges and offering solutions which other churches may follow."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130047236538368,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:23.393Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:33:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8733794c-7b99-4fc8-9fcc-08eb53c9c8ff","accessControl_ssim":["a4772d63-c7f6-4adf-ab96-f3d8a50aef05"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Transitioning from minister of administration to executive pastor"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:12:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:06:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c1239a6e-c4e7-467b-a915-c1e8da2f1663"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc485952-70ab-4eae-927c-f4646f1e78e5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Fletcher"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry G Hoyle"],"keyword_tesim":["Clergy--Performance standards"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Clergy--Office","Organizational sociology","Church management","Social groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this paper is 'Changes in ministry and leadership needed when transitioning from church administration to executive pastor.' The body of the dissertation is divided into three parts. A literature review examines literature associate with leadership, change management, church health and growth, organizational culture, and biblical studies so that key practices can be determined. The research procedure section defines the case study methods, criteria, questions, and reliability of the research. The case studies themselves demonstrate the key leadership practices used by three pastors to bring about culture transformation within each respective church. There are three key practices for leading cultural transformation within churches developed in this dissertation. First, there is an association between the leadership practices of identifying the current cultural philosophies and overall cultural transformation in the church. Five hypotheses guided this study: people from the mother church leave to plant the new church; church planters have a relationship with the mother church before starting a new church; daughter churches are planted locally in relation to the mother church; daughter churches are financially supported by the mother church for a period of time; and the people from the daughter church fully support the church planter. The hypotheses were supported by the literature and case study. As a result of these case studies, seven principles surfaced. The first principle is finding the 'right' person. Without the 'right' person, the rest of the principles do not matter. Principle number two is assessment, which verifies that he, is indeed the 'right' person for the job. Principle number three is the five percent rule: every new church that is planted will give five percent of its offerings to an escrow account for a minimum of three years. This is where the money comes from to plant new churches. Principle number four is partnering for the purpose of sharing resources. Principle number five is that a church plant becomes a fully functional church on its launch day, which allows the bookkeeping systems of the church to include paying the salary of the church planter from day one. Principle number six is raising support, which takes the pressure off the church planter to raise his full salary. Principle seven is networking, which makes partnering easier and contributes to the nonfinancial support of the planters. It is hoped that these principles will work to make a difference in the way churches are started and that they will be tested in different places by other networks of churches that desire to create movements of church planting churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130058766680064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:25:34.389Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:24:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"20d2c1b0-f688-45ca-b7b9-9378cca1dcc3","accessControl_ssim":["918a4484-d0eb-4491-b75c-31e8e8f71817"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Evaluation of E3 partners personal evangelism training in contemporary Russia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T13:11:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:06:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["71656e0e-be67-4376-ad89-cc229e4898b9"],"hasLease_ssim":["1b7798be-4c37-4a31-a828-896e80dfa79b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Michael Pocock"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"location_tesim":["Russia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Vasily Lvovich Dmitrievsky"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Evangelistic work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation establishes that effective personal evangelism training should increase believers' understanding of the gospel, improve their attitudes toward sharing of the Good News of Christ, amplify their intentions to be involved in personal evangelism, and finally, intensify their aspirations for better results in communicating the gospel.
