It is the doctrine which grew out of Martin Luther's Reformation experience.  The author entered a study of biblical, theological, and historical and confessional foundations which would help to create a balanced Lutheran spirituality centered on both doctrine and experience.  After a study of the conceptual framework for spirituality, the author sampled the understanding and practice of the spiritual life of 10 percent of the congregation. The history of the racial separation, current church practices, and conditions are used to inform the study.  Methodology includes literature search, a survey of those in bi-racial churches, and interviews with pastors and church members.  Gleaning isights from the project process, a suggested strategy is developed to maintain a growing, bi-racial church. It entails placing ministries in urban areas where there is not visible Christian witness. Through the use of a self-study guide, great diversity is revealed within a single congregation's mode of worship, methodologies in ministry, and procedures in administration.  Difficulties in bridging intracultural and intergenerational gaps show the problems in attempting to establish a corporate identity and to define 'Black experience' for that corporate body. The curriculum is designed to integrate a wholistic mission theology with an understanding of contemporary world issues.  Throughout the curriculum, the Lausanne Covenant is used as a backdrop against which contemporary world situations are viewed, thus forming mission imperatives for the 1990's.
