The project used a pastor focus group to collect information and identify attitudes, to which the evangelism team responded with implications and recommendations. The purpose was to increase the effectiveness of volunteer ministry leaders at Coastal Oaks Church by empowering them through ministry supervision. Following an orientation retreat, the ten volunteers participated in twelve weeks of supervision, wherein the participants created their own ministry covenants, ministry job descriptions, and planned and evaluated specific ministry assignments. The research has determined the boomer generation is more likely to be involved in ministry in the local church or community when the ministry has meaning and purpose, along with the flexibility of time. The project utilized a Preaching Advisory Team (PAT) recruited from the church membership to work with the pastor in strengthening his efforts in this area. Over a ten week period the PAT both critiqued sermon applications from messages preached by the pastor and also worked collaboratively with him in the creation of sermon applications for upcoming messages.
