This approach was appealing because it allowed everyone to contribute to the planning process, leading to a shared vision. The values-based approach was subjected to a series of tests: theological and experiential. The theological revolved around an analysis of biblical themes of planning and their impact upon a values-based approach. The experiential consisted of an interview process of data collection which led to the discovery of personal and corporate values within BCOG. It asserts that a continuing education program is a lever that can promote not only development and well-being but also spiritual maturity. The fast-growing church and a low level of education are realities the churches in Africa are facing. Many local church leaders lack sufficient training to care well for their flocks. This problem is exacerbated by multiple challenges the country faces. In addition to a lack of development and education, there is pressure to have a large number of congregants but no effort to build qualitative spiritual formation. Continuing education aims to change lives by equipping the local church leaders with knowledge and leadership tools that help them to promote change in attitude and behaviors. The training program set to reach the goal of maturity is presented. Based on feedback obtained from leaders and teachers, this work gives instruction for further development of the continuing education program."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130277459787776,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:02.951Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:23:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:50:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8e4f2e23-53bf-4ee3-abec-ced4c7c286c8","accessControl_ssim":["578c3db2-b7b2-4937-822f-38cc1dc53dbb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Selah: the trinitarian, contemplative, biblical life of spiritual direction"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:22:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:18:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7f4db554-2c1e-42e8-837a-f362e6709781"],"hasLease_ssim":["2c581070-6d28-4c60-9979-84c549676f28"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Macchia"],"year_tesim":["2011"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Susan Porterfield Currie"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religious education--Philosophy","Attention","Evangelicalism","Spiritual life--Christianity","Contemplation","Spiritual directors","Spiritual direction"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In response to the North American evangelical church's need for spiritual direction training programs that have theological and methodological integrity, the author developed Selah, Leadership Transformation Inc's certificate program in spiritual direction. The ability of Christian Horizons to continue as such is dependent upon a clear articulation of its reasons for existence to thousands of employees and to its stakeholders. In the organizations 45 year history, it has grown to become one of the largest ministries of its type in Canada. The idea of a strategic and articulated organizational culture is a new consideration for Christian Horizons. It has become obvious that a method for evaluating systems with values is critical. If the organization is to fulfill its mission 'To serve the person with exceptional needs,' a clear method of aligning mission with the value statement, 'We will honor God and value people in all we do and with all our resources,' must be created. Volunteers expressed a value for experiencing a sense of belonging, welcoming new persons onto ministry teams, experiencing a sense of shared leadership, the importance of pastoral leadership, and strong biblical motivations for ministry. Yet, women's education in spiritual and biblical matters ought to be taught in the church to equip them for the Great Commission mandate. This thesis-project explores the effectiveness of an existing spiritual education curriculum in the form of a mentoring program for college women. The evaluator uses the positions of women's epistemological development proposed by Belenky and her colleagues as a basis for evaluation. The author also discusses various women of the Bible as they relate to the mentoring program and one's understanding of how the program ought to be restructured. Though this is a frequent occurrence, the nature and unique stresses present in this type of family is not well-understood or explored within the counseling literature. The term Jewish intercultural families is used in this thesis rather that the more commonly used term, interfaith, because it is the emphasis of this thesis that while the couples' differences may contain a faith element, it is in essence a cultural difference. An approach is explored which encourages couples to think more broadly about the range of options available for them, by exploring five categories: identity, community, traditions, faith and extended family. Until recently, marriage and family therapists have been very reluctant to separate the ideas of religion, spirituality and culture. It is the conviction of this thesis that not only is this a critical part of helping Jewish intercultural families, but that a Christian approach to counseling in particular can help couples see the possibility of spiritual unity while maintaining communal and ethnic diversity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131942813433856,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:31.156Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":766,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"Dissertation","hits":5,"label":"Dissertation"},{"value":"Thesis","hits":2,"label":"Thesis"},{"value":"D.Min.
