The material was field-tested for its effectiveness.  The theological thread in this thesis is the conviction that stewardship is a living out of the Christian's baptism.  The impact of the program is not limited only to the increase in benevolence. There was an approximate 25 per cent increase in worship attendance. The methodology of this project is centered on an approach to discovering data through the use of a survey instrument. To demonstrate this thesis, people were chosen randomly from six Lutheran congregations of various sizes and contexts for ministry.  Each person was given the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and a worship questionnaire.  The scores of these instruments were standardized and correlated, and the statistical evidence supported the thesis.  The implications of this study for a congregation's evangelism and worship planning are manifold. The thesis is that there is a body of contemporary American poetry which expresses themes that are in harmony with Lutheran theology.  The project includes an anthology of more than one hundred poems by nearly fifty twentieth-century writers organized under a variety of themes consistent with Lutheran theology. They provided data which proved this hypothesis: given the opportunity, ELC-PNG ministers and administrators can realistically reflect their socio-religious situations, accurately describe their needs in ministry and thereby develop continuing education programs to meet those needs. By means of a survey among 1,800 clergy in Minnesota, it was found that many clergy came into ministry from an extreme family system. The criteria to measure this are theological soundness, liturgical consistency, and pastoral effectiveness.  This study includes an overview of cultural and church responses to divorce, a comparison of Catholic and Lutheran theologies of marriage, an exegesis of biblical divorce texts, a local study assessing participants' evaluation of a ritual experience, and a theological discussion applying a theologia crucis and the law and gospel paradigm to the issue. Despite the vast energy poured into the renewal of Roman Catholic liturgy, this project indicates that many Catholics still do not find liturgical celebration to be an adequate expression of their search for, and expression of, God.  Study groups were devised to raise sacramental consciousness.  A comparison of responses made on reflection sheets before and after sessions indicates that the sacramental process had become overshadowed by sacramental events; and for many these events had become empty rituals. The result informs four tasks of pastoral care: 1) training of volunteer leadership, 2) planning job careers with teens, 3) offering spiritual direction, and 4) assisting worship leaders in their planning.  Pastoral care is trinitarian.  Gifts given in creation (personality types) provide the means to the common unity to which the Church is called (sanctification). Such harmony is made possible through atonement (redemption). Decisions are made by consensus.  Plurality is acknowledged. Variety is cherished.
