In each is an element of uncontrollable mystery: one's vulnerability at font and table, one's lack of control in transitional moments, and one's chutzpah in preaching God's Word.  She concluded that, in times of transition, the preacher should focus on the goodness of God and the mysteries of God, rather than trying to force a premature resolution. In-depth interviews were conducted prior to the project to ascertain the congregation's attitudes and understandings about the sacraments.  Responses to four sermons in which sacraments played an integral part were examined. A small group of parishioners gave feedback after each sermon. These interviews and surveys revealed that the sacraments have high emotional content for believers, that they stimulate memory, senses and emotion.
