The research data were gathered in a United Church of Canada congregation who are primarily comprised of white, upper middle class professionals, many of whom have transferred to the denomination or are new to the faith tradition. Through the preacher's adaptation of the concept of Celebration (Situation, Complication, Resoltuion, Celebration), by using a leading question to invite and challenge the congregation at the conclusion of the sermon, the research indicated that the majority of listeners who responded to the questionnaire claimed that the sermon made a difference in their daily lives."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128680489025536,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:39.961Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:42:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2ee1df6a-4eac-46a6-b18d-d3a5b48be754","accessControl_ssim":["06124fea-d83a-4664-9471-49a72fe68817"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Toward a reconciling lifestyle through worship and service"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T05:42:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:29:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["35280afe-d0ad-4ddc-943a-5f960bf1efa8"],"hasLease_ssim":["533e7999-3149-45a6-ba43-f91aa671b2bf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Hearn Chun"],"year_tesim":["1997"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Samuel Hee Shinn"],"keyword_tesim":["Reconciliation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Korean Americans","Shamanism","Theology","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project proposes that Christian life among Korean American Presbyterians influenced by shamanism can be energized and directed only as they find the meaning of the theological principle of reconciliation in a life of love and justice. Intrinsic individualism in both Lao and American cultures militates against spiritual formation, promoting divisions between various spheres of life and tending to divorce God from a central place in human life. A bicultural, bilingual team is aiding a Midwest congregation in their spiritual formation. Together with Lao and Americans, they studied and acted on the nature of the church using a Reformed tradition and a model of human culture to interpret the nature of the church. Members of the team learned: a universal model of human cultures is essential to understanding each other; transcultural metaphors of the church are helpful for spiritual insights; and people in both cultures must respect, strengthen, modify and amalgamate their unique cultural realities to generate Christian formation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128427359633408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:59:38.558Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:15:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:52:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2d78a96b-725c-4e79-b9ea-e646eda19eda","accessControl_ssim":["fdd47cf1-ad50-4976-a1c5-8ef89a610d61"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recovering the symbol of Christian unity: an inquiry into the eucharist as the symbolic act of community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:15:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:27:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6746a1ab-db58-4bfd-bbce-78011ee9d915"],"hasLease_ssim":["93f576a1-85dd-4c4e-9d81-6a3d34a7e66f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert Craig"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brooks L Ambos"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Lord's Supper","Theology","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The church finds strength, unity, and purpose in table fellowship.
