A selected group of parents and teenagers participated in an eight-week project involving listening, talking, decision making, and conflict resolution. Willingness of parents to make a change in the way they approached communication relieves some of the anxiety that accompanies many types of parent-teen innteractions.  Among the elements of improved communication are time involvement, genuineness, and unconditional love. The workshop was designed to help parents and teenagers use the teen years for the process of 'de-parenting'.  This means through open communication to bring children from the organized world of childhood safely through the disorganized teen years to become stable reorganized young adults.
