The aim was to determine the issues that are importnt to once-churched individuals and how to shape sermons on these issues. During the project, both churched and once-churches individuals completed surveys to determine their feelings about the church and their personal needs.  Four sermons were crafted in response to these surveys.  Participants listened to and responded to each sermon.  Changes were made to future sermons based upon the response each week. Preaching is defined as the proclamation of the Word of God through lecturing.  Historically, within the author's Methodist tradition, preaching has been a lecture--totally void of narrative, illustrations or even questions.  Within recent years a variety of teaching methods have been incorporated into preaching delivery but the use of these methods has seldom been questioned or even tested.
