The local church congregation is a smaller section of the larger family of all believers.  Is the congregation a healthy family of God or a dysfunctional family of God? Small-group ministries can assist in creating a healthy, spiritual congregation. Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction. Using Whitehead's theological method, a biblical-grounded basis, and contemporary-type small groups, the author tailed a variety of groups which provided new life and energy into the church.  Each set of groups was measured using objective data and subjective evaluations.  The membership, attendance and finances of the congregation dramatically improved during the project. This method involved groups of clergy and laity in the preparation and evaluation of a series of sermons preached by the author over several months. (Sermon videotapes were used to facilitate the clergy evaluation).  The author hypothesized that this method would produce measurable improvement in the oral communication, biblical interpretation and relevance of his preaching and that such improvement would substantiate the viability of the method.
