The pastor achieved this by appointing four committees.  The history committee looked into how the church grew by caring in the past.  The theology committee delved into the biblical and theological bases for caring.  The community committee studied the community and its need for caring. The planning committee then took the work of the other three committees and developed three to five years of caring plans. It is an effort to provide a pattern to encourage true community in the local congregation.  Reading, examination of existing designs, developing and conducting an initial experiment of the caretaking design within the local church, evaluation and revisions formed the essential method of study.
