It includes: criterion for selecting lay counselors, defining pastoral and lay responsibilities, identifying basic counseling procedures, defining roles of the husband and wife, developing the art of communication, resolving conflicts, managing finances, follow up procedures, and evaluations. Insights and principles were compiled into a training manual.  Five couples were trained. It is an effort to provide a pattern to encourage true community in the local congregation.  Reading, examination of existing designs, developing and conducting an initial experiment of the caretaking design within the local church, evaluation and revisions formed the essential method of study.
