It sought to identify particular attitudes, values, and personality traits that could contribute to effectiveness in four areas of ministry: catechetical, pastoral care, community building and social justice.  The theological basis for the project was strongly influenced by the theology of Edward Schillebeeckx.  Methodology consisted of an autobiography, standardized personality testing and feedback. To test the thesis, a standardized questionnaire was given to patients of the Presbyterian Hospital chemical dependency unit in Oklahoma City; the questionnaires were  given as the patients arrived and also to 100 former patients who had maintained at least one year of sobriety.  Of the eleven pre-treatment respondents, nine were stage 2 and two were stage 3.  Of the 60 with at least one year sobriety who responded, twenty-eight were at stage 3, fifteen were at stage 4, and fourteen were at stage 5.
