The COVID-19 pandemic introduced technology usage to Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church. This paper describes the demographic, economic and historical context of the congregation. Then, it explores definitions of Christian community, with an emphasis on boundaries that shape Christian communities. It continues considering Old and New Testament Scriptures as they relate to community formation. This project increased each congregation's self-knowledge and self-esteem as each remembered its history and traditions and then used that knowledge to produce a 'mission statement' outlining what God wants it to be and do in its community. The project explores this hypothesis in light of certain theological and sociological positions which the author determined to be consistent with the nature of the church and 'folk societies'.  The hypothesis is seen to be espescially appropriate to the small church.  The project describes the activities in the parish aimed at the re-appropriation of its heritage. The paper discribes how this need is being met in two smaller membership churches through the use and evaluation of 'Body Builders: Exercises in Leadership Development for Elders of Smaller Membership Churches,' a training manual written for the project.  The vital characteristics of smaller membership churches and the nature and origin of the office of elder are presented that these elders and churches may more effectively function in the upbuilding of the body of Christ.
