This goal was pursued through a series of seven sermons on the key theological images, followed by weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper, coupled with seven adult classes and four sessions with children. The biblical reference for the project came from Jeremiah 36.  The participants in the program were lay persons from St Luke's Episcopal Church, Mobile, Alabama.  They committed themselves to read selected passages from Holy Scripture, to reflect upon the same through contemplation and to write journal entries related to the experience.  Two questionnaires provided empirical data on the project, which lasted 30 days. This project created objectives, recruited adults as leaders, and developed a youth program.  The pastor took a leadership role, but encouraged leadership from adults and students alike. The project was a one day workshop presented at least once on each of the local, district, and national levels of the denomination. Participants were given the opportunity to discover their spiritual gifts by use of the 'Wagner Modified Houts Questionnaire'. In chapter one he describes the church, using both subjective and objective indicators ro renewal.  In chapter two he gives a theological foundation based on Jesus as servant.  In chapter three he presents a design for renewal that includes a sermon series, education class series, and a retreat.  Chapter four is an evaluation. Results were mixed.  To an extent the church developed a spirit of risk and a vision of community service. The project reports on a pilot study in which seven congregations participated in an organ donation educational program.  The author developed the program and trained the pastors to teach the program in the seven congregations.  One hundred thirty participant questionnaires were returned.  Sixty-five percent of the respondents reported that they had talked with their families about organ donation.
