By supporting grieving adults, churches can help children deal with grief in a manner which can alleviate further distress.  The project evaluates the theological meaning of death and surveys psychological studies on the impact of death.  It reviews the means of responding to grieving children.  Special attention is focused on how churches can help through pastoral care by clergy and lay helpers, the funeral service, and Christian education. Death anxiety is reviewed in the literature and critically examined in the approaches of Becker, Lifton, and Yalom; and from a biblical-theological perspective.  A curriculum was developed for adult education on death and dying. A theological understanding of life, death and ministry was developed from biblical and secular sources.  Divided into six sessions, the educational experience utilized group discussion, audio-visual presentations, simulations, and visitation. Templer's 'Death Anxiety Scale' and subjective self-reporting were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational experience.
