Culture and religion have imposed on women a 'necessity' to endure violence at home. Self-help groups seek healing and self-awareness for these women, based on their personal experiences and on an examination of the 'addictive' nature of Japanese society. The inferior role of women in our history and culture plays into the research of this thesis.  The scope of study includes research into relevant biblical, theological, spiritual and psychological information which pertains to homosexuality with a particular concentration on lesbian sexuality and spirituality.  A questionnaire and study guide developed from a Women's Spiritualilty group provides a feminist model for ministry. Current discussions are based on resources from outside the denomination.  This dissertation provides an in-depth denominational study to stimulate further discussion and upon which to begin to build a biblical view of the role of women in the church. The research includes an overview of contemporary Christian feminism, an extensive history of Advent Christian women and their contributions to the denomination, an exegesis of selected Pauline passages concerning women in the church and the practical implications for Advent Christians today.
