Reconciliation is a central biblical/theological motif, providing a relational conceptualization of the work of Christ and describing God's intervention into the human situation to overcome enmity and restructure actual relationships of persons to God, themselves and one another.  The church's ministry is one of announcing and demonstrating God's reconciling work in Christ, and of participating in the restructuring of human community in its own life and in ministries in the world. Pastoral ministry is an office of accountable public leadership involving three main responsiblities: labor in Word and doctrine, facilitation of the faith-development of the members, and leadership of the ministries of the church.  The chapters on conflict and the clusters of denominational current opinion provide the additional foundation for the develepment of a model for the pastor's role as an agent of reconciliation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715442300813312,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:34.162Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:25:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"79e36205-24ee-457b-99c2-46f6a9c678c7","accessControl_ssim":["2571882d-df1a-4061-b9e1-3d5b6ebd47e2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Love is the rubric: a cultic commentary on 1 Corinthians"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:24:14Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:43:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["661a8d16-cdaa-4aa8-88c2-2db75f20e9cd"],"hasLease_ssim":["954f28ae-f4b9-4308-8ccb-3305f12e2076"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul W Meyer"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel Patrick McGeachy"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Love--Religious aspects","Worship","Liturgics","Bible. Every portion of the letter is squeezed for every inference that can be drawn as to 1st century cultic practice which can be translated into our contemporary liturgy.  Directions, examples, implications, and first principles drawn from the text of 1 Corinthians are conjoined by the author with the contemporary church at worship.  He then describes what we may do as contemporary Protestants to recapture something of the New Testament fervor. The findings are: 1) 1 Corinthians is a unity, built around the central theme of the church's need to express its joy in the gospel as it upbuilds itself in love; 2) The great hymns to love (13) and resurrection (15) are not extraneous additions, but central expressions of that underlying message; 3) If we are to rediscover this, it is clear that we must build on that same foundation, to wait for and encourage each other, to make room for great difference of taste and doctrine, and to discover our unity in the resurrection.  Decency and order may be the necessary machinery for carrying out the task, but our business is joy, and the rubric is love."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717886879596544,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:25:25.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:23:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:21:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2f1381a9-1203-4632-9bfb-0198fac69d57","accessControl_ssim":["03b522bd-3963-468f-bde1-21b4402f7e0a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Needs assessment and evaluation instruments for clergy in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:23:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:30:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4d1964d3-1e32-4951-b139-ff5bd4c4dcd4"],"hasLease_ssim":["843d5281-50e5-4308-9951-89a94664ca99"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John L Hoff"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James Denison Lewis"],"keyword_tesim":["Clergy--Performance standards"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["United Methodist Church (U.S.). This church's often troubled life has been a remarkable microcosm of wider currents in American church history.  This study traces these currents from 1825-1975 with particular reference to the relationship between 'evangelical faith' and 'social concern'.  Primary documents available are the official records and writings of its ten ministers over 150 years. Personal faith and active social reform characterized many evangelical churches in the 19th century.  The fundamentalist-modernist controversy has characterized the 20th century and continues to hamper the unity and mission of the church. While there are new possibilities for reconciliation between 'personal faith' and 'social gospel' among conservative and liberal Christians, particularly with the emergence of the 'new evangelicals' of the 1970s, some issues, especially biblical understanding and authority, indicate continued tensions.  Dynamic balance must continue to be the pattern for the Presbyterian church if it is to retain biblical wholeness in mission and insights and contributions of both factions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716460828819456,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:02:45.505Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:22:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:22:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3ba1f4cc-99b3-4679-bb57-ebbc7f65c868","accessControl_ssim":["070b6123-c4fe-41b7-89f0-1eb6a523a4ff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The funeral and pastoral care: a handbook for Australian pastors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:22:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:51:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c47878e6-de16-4979-9476-c874861c1aa0"],"hasLease_ssim":["575c79a4-fc4e-4ca3-a139-491a9928bd92"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["R G Peterson"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"location_tesim":["New South Wales"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John E Helm"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral theology","Handbooks and manuals","Children and death","Christianity","Funeral rites and ceremonies"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project reviews, in critical theological perspective, funeral practices and the dynamic at work behind them in the Australian context, and designs a handbook for pastors. Christianity has a unique theological contribution to individuals at the time of death.  That contribution, centered on the resurrection event, is enhanced when it is presented in forms that are understandable to ethnic people in non-Christian traditions who live in close proximity to one another.  The funeral rituals of different Christian ethnic groups can enrich one another when they are shared in the context of worship that is inclusive, and seeks to serve the needs of the mourners."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716668980592640,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:06:04.015Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:19:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:25:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7f354cf6-35d5-4e82-87c3-fac4016f2caf","accessControl_ssim":["afc6978e-a616-4a4c-83bc-6ac19fd5b64a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A critical evaluation from a biblical-theological perspective of selected works in contemporary secular literature"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:19:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:52:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fa708559-0338-4eb7-9864-b63f1f6d20e0"],"hasLease_ssim":["dc4403ca-ff5c-4df2-8aa2-d6c5397c0cbc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W Paul Jones"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["B Wayne Crist"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Alienation (Social psychology)","Comparative literature--Themes, motives","Faith in literature","Christianity and literature","Redemption in literature","Transcendence (Philosophy)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this dissertation is that themes contained within contemporary literature can inform tenets in the Christian faith.  Six authors are evaluated according to the contribution of each to the following themes: transcendence as found in T S Eliot and Albert Camus, alienation as revealed in Eugene O'Neill and Dostoyevsky, and human redemption as envisioned by Ignazio Silone and Georges Bernanos.  The dissertation contends that each author has unique contributions to bring to Christian thought.  Since writers of literature deal with the concrete realities of existence, their insights are invaluable in testing traditional themes in Christian theology and doctrine."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717917409935360,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:25:54.610Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":445,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"A Philip Parham","hits":1,"label":"A Philip Parham"},{"value":"Ahn Byung Chae","hits":1,"label":"Ahn Byung Chae"},{"value":"Akakios","hits":1,"label":"Akakios"},{"value":"Alan H Landes","hits":1,"label":"Alan H Landes"},{"value":"Alan W Deuel","hits":1,"label":"Alan W Deuel"},{"value":"Albert W Scarffe","hits":1,"label":"Albert W Scarffe"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"Religious surveys","hits":25,"label":"Religious surveys"},{"value":"Feminist theology","hits":7,"label":"Feminist theology"},{"value":"Theology, Contextual","hits":7,"label":"Theology, Contextual"},{"value":"Campus ministry","hits":5,"label":"Campus ministry"},{"value":"Church and community","hits":5,"label":"Church and community"},{"value":"Relation (Theology)","hits":4,"label":"Relation (Theology)"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Church work","hits":38,"label":"Church work"},{"value":"Clergy","hits":31,"label":"Clergy"},{"value":"Church history","hits":26,"label":"Church history"},{"value":"Congregations","hits":24,"label":"Congregations"},{"value":"Pastoral theology","hits":22,"label":"Pastoral theology"},{"value":"Christian education","hits":16,"label":"Christian education"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[{"value":"Korea","hits":14,"label":"Korea"},{"value":"Australia","hits":13,"label":"Australia"},{"value":"United States","hits":12,"label":"United States"},{"value":"Korea (South)","hits":6,"label":"Korea (South)"},{"value":"Canada","hits":4,"label":"Canada"},{"value":"New South Wales","hits":4,"label":"New South Wales"}],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":445,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":445,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":445,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1984","hits":45,"label":"1984"},{"value":"1988","hits":43,"label":"1988"},{"value":"1986","hits":38,"label":"1986"},{"value":"1987","hits":38,"label":"1987"},{"value":"1990","hits":34,"label":"1990"},{"value":"1985","hits":28,"label":"1985"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":445,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":445,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":445,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":445,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":42,"next_page":43,"prev_page":41,"total_pages":45,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":410,"total_count":445,"first_page?":false,"last_page?":false}}}
