Coalition is an interdenominational organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which began in 1971. At issue is the question whether Coalition's ministries are compatible with a Presbyterian understanding of ministry. A comparison of Coalition's ministry with a Presbyterian understanding of ministry finds substantial compatibility except in the area of accountability. Coalition can provide a ministry which can complement, but not replace, the professional ministries of the Presbyterian church (UPCUSA)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716405908602880,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:01:53.130Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:09:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:08:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e1619373-8a5b-4908-8bb2-46ba0f589d71","accessControl_ssim":["4fb2ae20-f0e3-46a9-9632-cf3f8ef9355f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Presbyterians and miners: the church's response to the Comstock Lode"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:09:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:34:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e2cd8272-59f3-4d89-8301-fb99949657f0"],"hasLease_ssim":["6c7dca43-cf97-48c1-99f9-25ec58a1ddf7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Randi Jones Walker"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"location_tesim":["Nevada--Virginia City"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Charles Jeffrey Garrison"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["First Presbyterian Church (Virginia City, Nev)","Church and the world","Church history"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["First Presbyterian Church of Virginia City, Nevada organized three years after the discovery of the Comstock Lode. Method of Study: Insights from a wide variety of homiletical perspectives are compared and contrasted in relationship to this metaphor. Many different lay and clergy, both Latino and Euro-American, were interviewed. A small group met for six weeks to do a focused study on individual and systemic racism and to plan specific actions of resistance. A small group resource was designed. Sermons were preached using this metaphor. Results: Relationships continue to develop with a local Spanish Assembly Latino congregation. Three Vacation Bible School programs have been planned together. Latinos are using the church building. A Latino staff person was hired. The church hosted an anti-racism workshop in the community of Quincy. A grassroots three county anti-racism organization has sprung up in the area."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721222989152256,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:18:27.056Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:01:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:40:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2e3b4b9c-cbdf-4f6f-8026-5174c7460eab","accessControl_ssim":["4cab4c14-ff20-4fa3-8b89-48c38ed2e6f7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Soul retreats: re-visioning retreat ministry for the postmodern world"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:01:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:28:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1b3bbda3-68f9-4a46-98a8-f8c5ced0c72f"],"hasLease_ssim":["c243827c-7cdb-4765-81d4-e56de11341a3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jean Bohr"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Barry G Donaghue"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual retreats","Spiritual formation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author investigated the hypothesis that retreat facilitation in the postmodern world requires a more agile approach--Soul Retreats--and that the agenda of each retreat be largely supplied by its participants. Methodologically, it pursues a social analysis of the community's culture and faith through interviews with people in different places.
