Chapter 2 presents theological, sociological, and psychological ideas that are foundational for ministry with new members. Chapter 3 summarizes the preliminary study conducted with active, inactive, and former members.  It also details preparatory work with deacons, Sunday school leadership, and the church at-large to lead the church into this ministry. Chapter 4 presents the design and implementation of the new members orientation class which was the central element through which new members participated to become better assimilated. This project's goal was to present this design for families in an eleven-session intervention, thereby strengthening the family systems and their church.  The method of research included presentations, discussions, drama, and tests.  Conclusions were drawn from comparisons of pre- and posttests, which included scales for information and perception.  The results of the project were that while the knowledge about families increased significantly, the feelings about family changed less. 'The wheel of spiritual experience,' based on the spirituality typology proposed by Urban T Holmes in his book, A History of Christian Spirituality, was developed and tested.  Results show that the instrument is helpful in three ways. Chapter 5 presents a summary and evaluation of the ministry project. A mentorship program to train laity to preach in the context of the local church is an effective way to realize lay potential.  Biblical and theological principles that undergird an attempt to equip the laity were delineated.  Insights were gleaned from anthropology that inform efforts to communicate the gospel cross-culturally. The case study method was employed.  Equipping laity is risky and time-consuming, and results are not always immediately apparent. The project's hypothesis was supported.  Diversity in the design and delivery of sermons increased the effectiveness of preaching communication with listeners of differing cognitive style preferences. Dissimilar sermon delivery styles differed substantially in their degree of appeal to persons with contrasting cognitive style preferences.  How contemporary neuropsychological findings have affected communication theory were explored. God-image is defined in this project as who God is, how God works in the world and how God feels about us.  A 'more developed' God-image must include a vulnerable side of God.  Particular emphasis was placed on the providence of God.  When it comes to the daily business of living, few subjects have greater pastoral implications and challenges than God-image.  The conclusions reached in this project were twofold.  First, what one believes about God is important. Chapter 4 was facilitated through a study group, a questionnaire, interviews, workshops (one in Liberia and another at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary).  The researcher's analysis called for commitment, envisioning a community shared-story approach to Christian education.
