The text includes research and reflection on the theological meanings of personhood, stress, self-esteem and locus of control.  The project employed a treatment effects format, documenting change with scales measuring self-esteem, locus of control and level of stress. A ten-week support group encounter, focusing on fellowship, honesty and support, assisted the group members in understanding the reasons why churches do not grow numerically and provided support to cope with the non-growth situation.  The results of the project revealed slight differences in the feelings, expectations and outlook of the pastors in the support group as compared to the total number of pastors in the Association. While previous generations took religious affiliation for granted, the postwar generation shows significant differences with the preceding generations.  This fact became obvious when the postwar generation involvement with the church declined during their adolescence and early adulthood.  For this and other reasons, the postwar generation poses unique problems which an orientation must address. The primary task in this ministry setting is to increase the worshiper's understanding that congregational worship can be both structured and spontaneous.  The issue is not formality versus informality, but planned worship versus unplanned worship.  The research tools utilized in this project were congregational surveys and a structured interview. The project was implemented through a twelve-week divorce recovery workshop, utilizing both outside professional consultants as well as internal pastoral leadership.  Overall, the project proved to be successful in aiding participants in dealing with the trauma of
