In the Korean-American community, as illustrated by the situation in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, the church may be failing to develop and implement intentional ministries toward the elderly. Among numerous Korean churches in the area (over one-hundred local congregations), only three churches have programmatic ministries for seniors. The following dissertation first examines the Bible for a proper understanding of the place of seniors in the church. On the basis of this biblical understanding of the elderly, three of the more successful senior ministry programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are studied. Various survey data are presented and analyzed. The dissertation then compares the ministries among the three programs and, more importantly, to the biblical view of the elderly. The main reason for this appears to be cultural;  a Korean cherishes his honor and tends to keep up appearances. The Korean term for this is che myun. To overcome this cultural barrier, the project leader developed the delayed-response invitation program. He projects this program to be a more effective invitation method for Korean people than the immediate-response invitation. The project involved evangelistic preaching, the project leader made an announcement that a class would start the following week for those interested in learning more about the Christian faith. Those who responded to such an invitation were connected automatically to a four-week teaching program. The project involves training Korean speaking lay people in evangelism for the urban context.  It has three foundational pillars: selection of trainees (Kim, Park, Hyun, and Lee), support by the church, and preparation for leading training seminars by the author.
