The methodology included a pretest, a packet of learning activities for the purpose of pre-workshop preparation, a workshop, the post-test and the use of the Delta Model for future action planning and transfer of learning. Transforming laypersons into leaders required seeking, encouraging, equipping, and deploying them in ministry. Spiritual formation and spiritual gifts were the primary focus. Spiritual gifts inventories were used to determine the giftedness of laity. Lectures were used in the Wesleyan class meeting format, expressing the Wesleyan spirit, supported by tools helpful in accomplishing the desired result. The spiritual gifts inventory and two evaluation questionnaires were used. The context was the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Kentucky. The learning was supported with scripture and methods of organization for leadership and membership responsibilities. Ushers at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan were selected to participate in a twelve-week treatment consisting of activities comprised of self-directed learning, critical reflection, and transformative learning. The Levitical priesthood and their temple ministry were used to develop the theological model. The results were a deepened spiritual commitment, an expanded understanding of the biblical and theological foundation for ushering, and an increased desire to participate in ushering as ministry. The problem being the need for the evangelization of the towns college student population. Our methodology for addressing the problem was the establishment of on campus worship services that would be used for Christian evangelism. Worship services were held on the campus of Tuskegee University one a week for eight weeks. The model designed consisted of pre- and post-test survey, four teaching/preaching series, contextual associates survey form and a ministry outreach sign-up sheet. This action research model involved both the researcher as well as the congregation as participants to affect changes in attitudes toward social issues.
