Divorced clergy required to leave their parishes experience a second devastating loss, creating intense shame.  Ten clergy who remained in their parishes for three years, postdivorce, in two-hour interviews, report significant mutuality in dealing with the shame of divorce and with the loss both priest and parish suffer in clerical divorce. The pastors living within the boundaries of the Presbytery of Northern New York completed a test and a questionnaire was submitted to executive presbyters in the Synod of the Northeast.  The author ascertained that burn-out and stress was indeed a problem.  Three specific projects were initiated for evaluation and testing.  They included a retreat, pastoral supervision model and pastoral/clergy support group.
