Philadelphia is the context of study and the work of United Methodist Metro Ministries, Inc, the urban agency of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, is the example of an agency that developed and implemented such a process.  Findings include: new self-understanding and praxis of urban congregations based on socio-theological reflection; greater satisfaction in the work of ministry in the city; new appreciation for social context and biblical study.  This process necessitates critical reflection upon the urban context and disciplined biblical and theological study as indivisible for effective praxis in the city. A team leader can enhance the value of the experience through careful preparation and vigorous leadership.  A biblical model of missional leadership was developed and applied to the organization and leadership of a work team to the Solomon Islands in 1993.  Recruitment difficulties and on-site conditions resulted in the omission of key elements in the leadership style of the team leader. In conclusion, the author found a unanimous acceptance of the thesis, but mixed views concerning integrating preaching and healing during Sunday morning worship service since it would prolong the service.
