Heritage Fellowship did not appropriate symbols of their African and African-American heritages, nor did they develop a meaningful ecclesiology. Some churches today are experiencing decline which can be partly ascribed to the unresolved conflicts within the church.  When conflict does occur, lay and clergy leaders do not have the training to deal with conflict and therefore react quickly and ineffectively.  The project presents a case study in which one church in conflict participated in the study and educational events which taught some basic components of conflict management: conflict occurs in God's family; conflict can be a positive influence and opportunity for renewal; and, conflict signals a brokenness in relationship which needs to be reconciled just as Christ reconciled the world to himself. The result was the discovery that the discipline of prayer creates a deeper hunger for God and awakens a call to be with God. Cooperation in areas of worship, Sunday school, youth and Bible study fellowship occurred regularly under the leadership of one pastor. To test the thesis three methods of research are utilized: investigating literature on the subject of liberation theology and pastoral advocacy; analyzing three case studies; and a group discussion with seven chaplains to evaluate the data.  The chaplains concur that the project/thesis is a viable model to implement as one mode of pastoral counseling in the military chaplaincy.
