Its emergence has come as a result of the philosophical movement of postmodernism and a growing disdain towards modern culture. The main shifts in culture are a movement from empiricism to experience, individualism to community, and rationalism to revelation. Although these shifts are slight, their visible evidenve in the lives of Neo have confused and frustrated Moderns. The main focus of this work is the Western church's misunderstanding of the Neogeist and their initial; refusal to seek an understanding or work with Neo. The twenty-first century ushered in yet another subset of challenges facing biblical preaching and preachers. This project examines the mindsets of modernity and postmodernity alike, with a view toward preachers understanding and engaging the habits of modernity and skepticism of postmodernity through the lens of the gospel of God and its crown jewel, the cross of Jesus Christ. Whereas postmodernity asserts that truth is what one makes it and the reader imports meaning into the text rather than derives meaning from the biblical text, preachers must allow the biblical text to say what God intends to say rather than substantiate postmodern indictments toward scripture and its interpreters.
