Chapter one begins with 'hard feelings.' This chapter does not market a plan for a perfect church and pastor. Instead, it describes. Chapter two supplements autobiographical method with group process and family systems analysis. It documents the first two years of one new pastorate where the pastor intentionally focuses on prayer and proclamation.Chapter three suggests it wouldn't be right for pastors and parishioners to turn away from focusing on a ministry of the Word.Chapter four joins word ministry with a waiting ministry inviting pastors, parents and parishioners to pray. Ethnographic interviews 'field test' the claims of this chapter. Finally, chapter five concludes with not the least, priests. It invites church leaders to become not successes, but successors of those who have gone before them. Christologically, biblically, historically and autobiographically this chapter suggests that church leaders have already had their work cut out for them. They must, the chapter contends, preach and pray because it is what Jesus does, what the bible mandates, what his followers continue and what many ordained pastors have promised"],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/1755"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135728683450368,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:55:41.643Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:43:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:54:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c8f5d4c4-29bf-4d97-82be-e729faa8f027","accessControl_ssim":["1a781b09-c990-4dac-8235-c18222a9ed9e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The importance of consistorial leadership in pastoral care"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:43:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:54:15Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["42cb048a-25f1-46bf-bab7-10c342cbb3de"],"hasLease_ssim":["10050604-bf34-42f0-96d0-e6f900f14dc0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Chapter Three presents a contemporary study of the pastoral care that has been demonstrated in the Classis of Pleasant Prairie over the past 50 -- 60 years.Chapter Four brings together the three previous chapters with additional support for the importance of pastoral care by the elders, pastors, and deacons. This project identifies pastoral care as an important aspect of the ministry of the Reformation. Like other immigrants, Chinese families in North America experience more family problems than usual because of the complications brought about by migration. To develop a theology of family for the Chinese immigrant families in North America, three functions and three characteristics of family structure that are relevant to the context of their situation are incorporated. The family functions are procreation, stabilizing community, and individuation; the characteristics are adaptability to change, commitment to interdependence, and tolerance of diversity. These functions and characteristics are interrelated. This project concluded with the suggestion of a two-pronged approach in family ministry. First, the church is to intentionally apply a family perspective in everything that it does, be it worship, Christian education, Christian care, or mission. Second, the church provides family ministry programs that meet the needs in the faith community and the larger community."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135462130188288,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:51:27.438Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
