The subjects of the study were nine sisters who participated in intensive interviews, 45 sisters who responded to an anonymous questionnaire distributed to a random sample of one hundred, and one sister who was in therapy for nearly one year.  The findings provide information about the barriers Catholic women religious face in their ministry toward women who have had an abortion.  Attention is given to some of the areas of conflict that may widen the gap between the service which Catholic women religious feel mandated to provide and the actual care received by women who have had an abortion. Men and women of various ages, occupations, and educational levels were interviewed. They said they wanted to hear the Bible preached and taught as the infallible word of God.  They claimed to now have a heart relationship with the Lord they didn't have before. They found a caring attitude, a warm and loving support community of faith they had not experienced.  They objected to the social-activist position of mainline churches.
