For the purposes of this project, I am defining it as worship that intentionally involves in a balanced manner the entire age span ranging from preschoolers to older adults as participants in the action of Christian worship…. The particular approach to intergenerational worship in this project is not a pre-conceived liturgy or set order of worship; but rather it is an open approach that values variety and diversity in worship… This project does not propose any closed theology of intergenerational worship. The intent of the writer is to encourage experimentation and to offer some possibilities alongside other innovations in worship for children, youth, and adults. The designing of intergenerational liturgies by this writer involves thematic unity. Without a fixed order to provide a framework for the liturgies, it is important that the theme of each celebration be the thread that holds the liturgy together. It is the writer’s intent that thematic unity will be evident in the four model liturgies in this project. However, thematic unity is not intended to be a basic tenet for all intergenerational worship, and it is not dealt with extensively in this project. A theological basis for intergenerational worship and developmental awareness are dealt with more fully in this project. Theological criteria, whether those presented in this project or not, are important when one is experimenting with innovations in worship. The theological criteria in chapter two of this project are basic to this writer’s approach to intergenerational worship in the local church. Details of motivation, inception of and planning for this Program of Training and Training Manual, its theological basis and issues, documentation, and evaluation for use, compose the contents of Part I. The acceptance and use of the Program of Training and Training Manual by the Marine Corps is an issue that will be handled separately from, and is not a part of, this project. The Program of Training and Training Manual included in Part II were composed without footnotes or references with the intent of enhancing its acceptance and use as a practical tool for ministry by Command and chaplains within the Marine Corps. The Program of Training and Training Manual are the results of personal faith and experience, academic research, professional consultation, and colleague cooperation and support. As such, the approach is unique in that nothing similar to this has been attempted, and materials and statistics within the military are either short on supply or simply not available. The method used, therefore, was based upon personal faith, commitment, experience, observation and reflection. To this added the theoretical, theological, and academic which gave shape to the Program of Training and Training Manual. The theoretical background focused on the study of the nature of belief and disbelief.  Interviews of 20 adults were conducted and analyzed.  The results indicate that a variety of factors contribute to the rejection of formerly-held beliefs; however, most often factors indicated poor judgment on the part of local church leadership. The study develops a theology and theory on marriage, traces the historical and literary formulation of premarital counseling as a practice, reports the results of a questionnaire survey of premarital counseling practices among clergy in the two Adventist conferences, and develops an alternative premarital counseling program which enables clergy to save time and enhance their premarriage counseling experiences.  The study of 100 clergy in two Adventist conferences investigated their programs, backgrounds, churches and materials characteristic of premarital counseling. Data from questionnaires returned by the clergy indicated: 1) 94.0 percent believe in premarital counseling; 2) only 18.0 percent felt comfortable doing premarital counseling; 3) the majority felt uncertain about the actual effectiveness of premarital counseling; 4) 84.0 percent require premarital counseling; but 5) 87.0 percent said they did not have a specific structured counseling program. Where the people as a whole and the pastor have shared significant mutual trust, such 'corporate' trust begins to weaken while the personal ties, or 'one to one' trust between the pastor and individual parishioners grows deeper.  What do these paradoxical-seeming changes mean?  nearly eighty such pastorates were studied to learn how the pastor can maintain strong corporate trust as well as the individual trust that results in good pastoral care.
