Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald Slack II "],"subject_tesim":["Church Development","African American Churches","Commitment to the church"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this research was to examine the Black church and explore ways to revitalize it, as the Black church is experiencing a decline in membership and grappling with issues related to vision casting and discipleship. Key themes explored in this research include vision casting, membership retention, membership integration, and assessing components to revitalizing the urban Black church.\r\n\r\nSix churches were selected in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Three of them are thriving, while the other three were once thriving. A comparison and analysis were conducted to identify the common denominators among the six churches, exploring how they achieved and maintained their success and the methodologies they employed that could be applied to other churches in the greater Kansas City area and beyond. Over forty participants from the six churches took part in interviews, Zoom meetings, and roundtable discussions which addressed the key research problems. The information from those interviews was shared in a group setting that was particular to each individual church.\r\n\r\nThree major takeaways include how pastors dedicated specific time to clarify the vision and direction of their churches; how their visions were communicated through verbal and nonverbal messaging; and lastly, implementing and evaluating the processes and efforts utilized from the vision that resulted in discipleship and commitment to the church. In conclusion, pastors, church leaders, and church members were able to evaluate how they could achieve their goals, assess their organizational structure, and streamline their actions. SVUP’s ongoing increase in young adults amongst its membership sets the congregation apart. This project uncovers the role intergenerational Christian fellowship plays in young adults' ongoing faith development. Matthew","Theology, Contextual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["AbstractIn its nearly two-hundred-year existence in the city, First Baptist Church has seen the best and worst of life in Montreal. Still, the current congregation shows no signs of giving up our corporate goal to be 'A House of Prayer to All Nations.' This portfolio reflects my evolution as pastor of this vital community and the church itself, especially during my time at Tyndale.As challenging as the ministry is in general, it takes on another dimension of difficulty when the congregation to whom we minister is gone. The question that loomed large over my pastorate was how I could continue ministering to people in such an event. COVID-19 left us searching for alternate ways to minister to congregational needs despite restrictions on interpersonal contact. We partly addressed this ministry through online services, but many members could not avail themselves of this resource, being unable to access computers or the internet. Government-enforced church closures complicated the issue, as did some individuals fearing the risk of exposure by physically attending the church when open. The threefold foci of this research concentrated on how best to preach to an absent congregation, encourage them in prayer, and maintain a sense of communal fellowship despite enforced separation. The research project documents how we addressed these problems through regular telephone and mail contact to alleviate the isolation members experienced. This outreach included the distribution of printed sermons and prayer requests. We reassured members they were loved and cared for while reminding them of the congregational unity and community of those sharing their struggles. The project had some success, constrained mainly by its eight-week duration. The project director used the research model found in the current Doctor of Ministry Handbook from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.This is a topic that has very little research on it currently as it is still a developing field of study in the church. It is, however, a field of study that has seen exponential growth because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most churches, including Northcrest, went live-stream only for several weeks during the initial COVID-19 shutdown of 2020. Therefore, despite the relative dearth of research, there is a great need for understanding.The project director did a wide range of research on this topic to better understand those participating in worship both virtually and in-person at Northcrest. This thesis project focuses on the use of celebrative preaching as a homiletical design to address this challenge. It also explores some of the factors that contribute to this predicament and provides relevant advice on how to address it. It is a fact that every church has a liturgy, and each worship service is liturgical, some more formal and others informal. Throughout a twenty-year pastorate in the same church, the researcher has noticed weaknesses with respect to the liturgy, and aspects of worship service (Commitment, reverence and participation).The first objective of this research was to evaluate the level of understanding that believers in the Assembly of God Brazil have about liturgy and corporate worship. Another objective of the research was to develop a program related to improvement of various aspects of liturgy and corporate worship.The literature review provided the necessary information for a better understanding of the meaning of liturgy and the value of corporate worship. This information provided the basis of the questionnaire and guided the researcher on the topic of studies during the seminar.The researcher theorized a qualitative concept for each of the four hypotheses: a) Hypothesis-1: excellent; b) Hypothesis-2: good; c) Hypothesis-3: good; d) Hypothesis-4: excellent.After conducting the evaluations and the seminar, the researcher identified the following final grades and concepts of qualities for the four hypotheses:a) Hypotheses-1: Excellent – Final grade (4,5)b) Hypothesis-2: Regular – Final grade (3,7)c) Hypothesis-3: Good – Final grade (4,1)d) Hypothesis-4: Excellent – Final grade (4,64)Hypotheses 1, 3 and 4 had the result expected by the researcher. The hypotheses 1 and 4 had an excellent result and hypothesis 2 a good result. Although the hypotheses 2 did not obtain expected results, there was development. The statements that have assessed this hypothesis 2, suggested changes in the liturgy of the local church, this is a sensitive and controversial subject.
