It arose from the author’s reflection on her own spiritual journey, from her professional experience as a psychotherapist, and from the observation that psychological barriers often impede spiritual progress. While the psychotherapeutic and spirituality literature often exist in separate silos, and the two professions tend to operate in different domains, the author contends that spiritual formation/direction and psychotherapy in combination are often what is needed to bring about Christlikeness. A psychospiritual model of Christian formation is presented that integrates insights from both domains with particular attention to the rich spiritual traditions of Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic understandings of psychological wholeness and spiritual holiness. To test this integrated model, a field research project was carried out to explore the effect of an integrated, eight-session psychoeducational program with individuals whose spiritual lives were affected by trauma and unforgiveness. The findings of the study suggest that attachment theory and trauma-informed principles may help people move forward in the process of forgiveness and spiritual growth. The limitations of the study are discussed, and recommendations are made for further study on how to extend a psychospiritual approach to spiritual formation in the case of similar issues that present barriers to wholeness and spiritual transformation into the imago Christi."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133395512721408,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:18:36.557Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:42:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8571ac28-4c51-4110-9a84-9d02044014ba","accessControl_ssim":["084efdf4-9090-4e49-9056-8a54202f8f67"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Expectation Of Sanctification: The Preaching Of The Word Of God As Formative Church Discipline"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:03:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["954320ea-0af3-419f-ac5a-cee31e334977"],"hasLease_ssim":["77b3bacc-7b92-4046-b906-0311d122fa40"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["R. The Word of the holy God is preached and received to make a holy people. This is a clear Biblical expectation. Four passages serve to illustrate the consistent focus of scripture on the sanctification of God’s covenant people: Deut. 6, Matt. 5, Eph. 4, and 2 Pet. 1. The impact of the preaching of John Calvin in Geneva is explored to gauge its impact on the sanctification of the people sitting under the Word. The influence of the Consistory of Geneva is also examined to determine how they created an expectation of sanctification in that Reformed city.Themes in Walter Marshall’s work, The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification, are summarized to enumerate the various theological strands which are woven together with our sanctification. Those themes are then used to also discover the degree to which more contemporary sources support a Biblical understanding of the place of sanctification in the Christian life. Lastly such themes are employed to provide a framework in which local churches can increase their emphasis on continual growth in holiness for all of the members of the church. Ideas for equipping the elders of the church to support this emphasis are detailed. The focus turns to discipling the members to see the importance of growing in holiness in a consistent way as they sit under the preached Word."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127373915095040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:53.915Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:04:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ae88dfda-8ba3-44e5-b8a2-1817b080191b","accessControl_ssim":["4bfea926-438e-45a7-aaae-ac5972d527cf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Whose Kids Are These? Christian families are losing children to the world at a startling pace. The question of who is responsible for the discipleship of children does not receive enough attention. In practice, churches have looked to serve families by performing this function. This research addresses parents’ roles and responsibilities. Among Christians, there can be an inconsistency between doctrine and practice. Children are abandoning Christianity later in life, and many parents are struggling to fulfill their call to nurture their children in the faith. A multitude of measures are being undertaken by faithful congregations to avert the crisis in families. Genesis 1, Deuteronomy 6, Psalm 78, Ephesians 6, and the Pastoral Epistles lay the expectation that parents will function as the primary disciple makers for children. With the concept of sphere sovereignty and more, Abraham Kuyper offers unique insights into this conversation. After examining the current literature and models for family ministry in churches, the field research explores the ministry models of three particular churches on this issue. Each ministry model brings unique biblical approaches in their endeavor to ensure the faith “once for all delivered to saints” is passed to succeeding generations. Each model also faces challenges unique to the approach they have adopted. This research proposes a new “Every Square Inch” discipleship model. The model enables the family and the church to carry out their respective roles while avoiding abrogating the responsibilities given to other parties. This analysis and model are intended to equip Basswood Church in Knoxville, TN in their efforts to see faithful disciples formed in the next generation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128725080768512,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:04:22.487Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:06:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b3400205-f515-425b-ac43-0373f7504659","accessControl_ssim":["fcca813d-6997-49bb-a13a-677c461efa7a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Presbyterian Polity In Practice: A Commentary On The Book Of Church Orderof The Presbyterian Church In America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:18:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["43542de6-b896-4a0d-bedc-c05c7fcef267"],"hasLease_ssim":["4ca61c99-347c-46af-8346-fc3306785bfc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Guy Waters Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The study begins by demonstrating the debate over the use and interpretation of the BCO within the PCA. It introduces the debate by putting the BCO into the context of the Constitution of the PCA, examining its relation to the Westminster Standards, and how subscription to the Standards affects operating under the BCO. Having put the BCO into the larger context of the Constitution of the PCA, it explores the current debate over polity before examining the resources available to illuminate the BCO. The study moves then to the basic biblical principles of Presbyterian church government. It investigates the headship of Christ as the foundational principle of Church government before working out the implications of his headship in jure divino government and the regulative principle. An examination of Acts 15 shows Christ’s headship in action in the life of the Church, leading to an exploration of the fundamental Scriptural principles that underlie and shape Presbyterian polity. The study then surveys the historical development of the BCO from its beginnings in the Colonial era to the current time to see the significant influences that shaped it. This historical context gives the framework to understand both the larger shape of the Church laid out by the BCO and some of the individual provisions. The study culminates in a chapter-by-chapter commentary on the BCO that marries the broad context identified in the rest of the study to the narrow context of the history and basis of each specific provision to provide an easy-to-use reference for the elders of the Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128872026112000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:06:42.624Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:52Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"636f7a6a-3688-4707-8b41-76a6795c2e08","accessControl_ssim":["e11847b8-b971-477d-a4b1-ff5b4898f377"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Recovering The Theology Of Union With Christ To Address Christian Identity Issues"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:02:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["afe9a2f1-fa8f-42ac-838d-7f424ded99e4"],"hasLease_ssim":["103bf88a-6805-4c10-94dc-735f29d177fb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["S. This project seeks toreclaim union with Christ as the core of Christian identity and to develop a curriculum forteaching this concept. Psychologists consider the formation of personal identity to be the boundarymilestone to adulthood. A stable sense of identity provides a rootedness that allows aperson to weather the changes of his life, social network, and the world.Without a stable identity, the person may well look to the world to make sense of himself, leaving him vulnerable to the loudest voice of the day whether that is media, individuals,or government. Recent changes in society have made forming a stable identity far more difficultthan in previous generations. The mobility of society has removed the identity of place;the breakup of families has removed the identity of family; expanding horizons ofeducation and career have blurred class and occupational identities. The church is not immune to these difficulties. A personal identity is only as strong as the ideas and principles on which it is built. The concept of union with Christ gives believers a framework of identity based on who they are in Christ. In Christ, believers are given meaning and purpose as they join God’s mission of reconciliation. In union with Christ, the image of God damaged by sinis restored. This restores the believer to what he was created to be. This restorationprovides an identity which does not diminish individuality but instead allows believers tocelebrate their different giftedness within the framework of common spiritual union. Individual Christians are not answering the call to discipleship as Jesus commands, and the church has not been faithful in making disciples. This is addressed through the exegesis of four passages in the book of Matthew where Jesus issues a clear call to discipleship and the costs that faithful discipleship may entail for his disciples. The reasons why faithful discipleship is mandatory in order to follow Jesus are made clear. If one is not willing to follow Jesus as he commands, counting the costs he may have to count, he cannot be considered a disciple. Jesus’ call is a non-negotiable, and the ramification of ignoring it has eternal implications. The call to discipleship is also traced throughout the Bible in order to display that faithful discipleship in not a concept unique to Matthew. Even though the word “discipleship” does not appear the Bible, it is a thread woven throughout the pages of scripture. Discipleship demands obedience, and obedience has always been God’s will for his people. The contemporary problem–the lack of discipleship–is examined with a focus on the ramifications for the church. The impact of false teaching, materialism, apathy, fear of the world, and the church’s failure to make disciples are examined among the causes for the contemporary problem. This project examines solutions to the contemporary problem, as well as the positive ramifications faithful discipleship has on the church, the home, and society. This project examines what faithful discipleship looks like and how the church fulfills its mandate to make disciples."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128653803814912,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:14.512Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:04:11Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"64bd6635-80ed-4b69-a2b2-1f80a3fa19ab","accessControl_ssim":["cc161877-b0ff-44d9-b547-66e971f040b6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral Patience: The Forbearance Required Of A Pastor To Guide A Church And Shepherd Souls"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:04:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d961797d-ab74-4d09-874c-a84aa6f24771"],"hasLease_ssim":["ad44823b-c7b3-4de1-b975-30c7c59e1514"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rod Culbertson D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. From this investigation it becomes clear that God is long-suffering and desires for Christians to be long-suffering with one another. Long-suffering is one of the primary ways that a pastor can love, serve, and lead his congregation. Pastoral patience can be found in many people throughout church history including what may seem to be an unlikely place: the life and ministry of Martin Luther. Luther displayed admirable patience as he made the actual Reformation changes to the theology and liturgy of the church at Wittenberg. He had long been convicted of such changes and yet displayed patience in their implementation.Much of contemporary scholarship does not address this topic at much length or with much detail. In many works, it is implied that pastoral patience is needful for the work of the church but rarely is it stated outright. The focus is often on what churches need to change or improve rather than how they should go about making the change. This section is supplemented by a survey of local church pastors and Christian school administrators regarding patience and leadership. The ministry model is articulated and generated using the Biblical, historical, andcontemporary research elements and lessons learned. The model is in the form of asuggested plan to be used by churches during their vision or revitalization process. It alsoincludes a four- part sermon series that could also be used for a conference on pastoralministry. There is also a series of PowerPoint slides that could be used in a conference ortraining setting."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720326105399296,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:04:11.721Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:20:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5080ab8d-fcfc-4a9f-8136-2fa54e5bdbe6","accessControl_ssim":["9dd5c8ea-8521-4f6d-a478-fe01a734020c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Ministry to Members of First Baptist Church, Montreal During the COVID-19 Pandemic"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:29:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6b128bd8-197c-4926-a1ae-3207e8d87d3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["4fa3b11a-f6cd-4e00-81f3-f599d10c5dfa"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Preaching and Communication"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Kevin Livingston Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"location_tesim":["Canada"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Still, the current congregation shows no signs of giving up our corporate goal to be 'A House of Prayer to All Nations.' This portfolio reflects my evolution as pastor of this vital community and the church itself, especially during my time at Tyndale. As challenging as the ministry is in general, it takes on another dimension of difficulty when the congregation to whom we minister is gone. The question that loomed large over my pastorate was how I could continue ministering to people in such an event. COVID-19 left us searching for alternate ways to minister to congregational needs despite restrictions on interpersonal contact. We partly addressed this ministry through online services, but many members could not avail themselves of this resource, being unable to access computers or the internet. Government-enforced church closures complicated the issue, as did some individuals fearing the risk of exposure by physically attending the church when open. The threefold foci of this research concentrated on how best to preach to an absent congregation, encourage them in prayer, and maintain a sense of communal fellowship despite enforced separation. The research project documents how we addressed these problems through regular telephone and mail contact to alleviate the isolation members experienced. This outreach included the distribution of printed sermons and prayer requests. We reassured members they were loved and cared for while reminding them of the congregational unity and community of those sharing their struggles. The project had some success, constrained mainly by its eight-week duration. However, we learned valuable lessons and continue using the process we developed, ensuring regular contact without overlooking any of our members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133511044825089,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:20:26.738Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:25:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ecfeb102-324c-474d-9960-2c12d890b116","accessControl_ssim":["f8caf016-215e-48f7-89a8-b1a89bac2465"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Intentionality in the Practice of Spiritual Disciplines: A Case Study"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:11:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:54:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0f1ef94a-df54-40fa-8d0c-637e81456db5"],"hasLease_ssim":["29f1867e-c885-4611-a2d8-0e131969b64f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spiritual Disciplines"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Uriah Pond Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. How do we communicate with God? How do we know what He is saying? Through the process of writing her spiritual autobiography during the COVID-19 pandemic, the researcher discovered that communication with God occurs when people 1) intentionally take time to listen to God, and 2) use the disruption of life as an occasion to contemplate their relationship with Him. Researching models of spiritual formation and looking at patterns in literature resulted in the creation of a five-part spiritual formation model of change. This model proposes that the ability to listen to God is a key aspect of spiritual formation. An action learning research project conducted with soldiers of The Salvation Army revealed that meeting biweekly one-on-one with a spiritual director to learn and engage in spiritual practices had a positive effect on the participants’ ability to listen to God.
