Working with terminal patients, the author created exploration sheets to go with each spiritual practice to guide the conversations between the patient and the chaplain in a hospice and palliative care setting. It presents research conducted by examining the staff listings found on congregational websites, analyzing denominational statistics on non-clergy compensation, and surveying lay church staff and pastors. It finds that an estimated 40,000 lay staff work in United Methodist congregations. The participants in this study were Christian women from various denominations who had experienced an offense that they found so egregious that it impacted their ability to move forward. The project examines human and divine forgiveness. Using the Scriptures, workshops, movies, writings and one-on-one counseling sessions with these participants, the dissertation also defines some of these offenses as they relate to similar offenses in the Bible. Personal testimonies realistically depict our everyday life and are at the core of who we are as Christians. In sharing our testimony of what God has done for us in a corporate worship service, we create the space for authentic God-talk to take place among Christians. The basic hypothesis is that since the advent of the megachurch, the small Black churches have followed the trend and exchanged the mid-week testimony and Bible study service for the 'pastor's Bible study.' In losing the testimony service, members lost the vehicle to share their stories and experiences of the Holy Spirit and how they have overcome in difficult situations. It is a very important question to Korean churches, because Korean churches have usually been led by a pastoral group. Another impact on the churches is servant leadership. Servant leadership is very close to the image of the pastor in Korean culture. The ministry paradigm is transferring from a vertical and hierarchical structure of ministry to a horizontal structure including the laity. Training and resourcing pastors and key leaders in the mid-sized congregation will strengthen the mid-sized church. The first is the actual research presented in this paper. The chapers defining a mid-sized church, pastor as leader, and being a mid-sized church are a guide to current and future mid-sized pastors and congregations. The second ministry tool is a resource list that is available through the Virginia Annual Conference Mid-Sized Task Force. Pretest assessments, using surveys, questionnaires, and interviews, of leaders from a diverse background of denominations, showed deficits in areas due to a lack of effective self-care. The primary intervention for this study was a workshop entitled, 'Walking in My Destiny with Effective Self-Care.' The workshop taught how to use the biblical notions of Sabbath and Sabbatical to improve self-care. Using pilgrimage theology he created a series of prompts and accompanying quotations from the Bible and ancient and contemporary pilgrims to spur attentiveness and feed reflection on sacramental faith in every part of a traveler's story. The guide was tested in both cocurricular and curricular service learning.
