With effective leadership any human institution or organization can flourish and grow in the ways that organization deems important.  Without effective leadership, organizations falter and decline, failing to accomplish their expected or hoped-for outcomes.  This thesis will examine the leadership of the United Methodist Church from John Wesley and Francis Asbury to the present.  The church's leadership applied in the past and in the present will be compared with the literature and theory of leadership in both business and church genres to assess the current state of the church.  The conclusion will be a number of suggestions for ways to assure effective leadership in the church at all levels. The Bible, itself, reveals examples of familial problems between parent and child. Some modern authors have made suggestions of ways to better parent and child relationships. However, what about intergenerational barriers in the outer society, for example, in the church? Can one create a bridge between senior and youth members of a congregation through the use of storytelling or the sharing of life experiences and then using this connection as a venue in producing joint ministry experiences in a congregation? The purpose of this study is to answer these questions. This project is divided into four parts designed to bring the teenage and 50+ adult groups together with the final portion, also, serving as an evaluation opportunity. A training program is provided to meet this need.  Each chapter is presented with the thesis in mind.  The first chapter presents views of specific theologians on the subject of suffering and the expected role of lay ministers to meet the needs of the suffering.  Subsequent chapters provide practical considerations for lay ministers.  The final chapter presents the development, execution, and assessment of the training program. Using selected women, the writer facilitated discussions to provide a framework for female solidarity. Members of the Bible study group grew spiritually and attained a sense of belonging and connectedness as they shared beliefs, experiences, values, and needs. But how does the church speak its beliefs to those who refer to listen?  In this paper, the author suggests the use of music, designs a worship service comprised completely of music teaching a theology of restorative justice, and studies the reaction of people who hear the music. The theological framework is provided by validating the ecclesial nature of campus ministry, which is the context for the ministerial tool, and by examining the role of biblical narrative.  The linkage to story is done by examining some different contexts in which story plays a role.  This served to develop paradigms for the Bible studies.
