The author studied what parish practices encourage an ecumenical understanding of the faith.  A survey was used to gather data from full communion settings.  The author visited three of these ministry settings, conducted interviews and used case studies to determine which practices promote ecumenical understanding.  Friendship among local pastors, and ecumenical leadership among judicatory officials are formative. The author developed two additional tools--a Rule of Life spiritual guide and a year-round stewardship program. The researcher designed a spiritual gift workshop that included an evaluation process to test his thesis.  The evaluation process included results of two surveys and several measurement tools. The reader is led through a discussion of the communication eras ultimately to understand the secondarily oral society thriving in Appalachia today.  oral stories are recorded, transcribed, and edited for sermonic use in story sermons.  The results revealed the significant benefit to be gained through the use of story sermons within congregational settings. 'From Text to Talkies' is a workshop that introduced church leaders to the theory and theology behind digital communication, addressed some of the common concerns with 'jumping on that bandwagon,' and modeled ways to communicate the good news in the digital age, including traditional storytelling.
