It is not a new question, nor does there appear to be a clear, united resolution. In some discussions, there has been more heat than light. The Baptist churches are in a state of transition. However, in the meantime, how does a woman who claims the doctrine of Baptists as her own respond authentically to her faith when the institutions of that faith erect barriers to her? How does she personally interpret her faith in a meaningful way? What avenues of ministry are open to her? What impact does her ministry have on the work and theology of her denomination? What is the experience of a Baptist woman who is called to minister professionally? What has been the response of Baptists to her ministry? This project evaluates the steps and role a Baptist pastor and moderator of the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Baptist Association, namely Rev. Dr. Kenny Smith, performed during his four-year tenure that led to women pastors and ministers to have full participation, including ordination, in the Association."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126638200619008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:31:12.283Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:13:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:31:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e1e226d2-44c7-4262-b0d3-a926890872ce","accessControl_ssim":["a8572a4c-d686-4a45-b919-c07fcedc8d72"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Seeking a corner of light: rabbinic exercises of spiritual formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:13:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:35:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6b0e0945-db17-4d77-924e-a7b7dee557e5"],"hasLease_ssim":["f91ea69a-ce06-47f2-9b01-eb9deaab7062"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["John W Crossin"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. In this thesis paper, contemporary drama is discussed with themes of alienation and community in our postmodern culture. The author led an adult class in Christian Education in reading and discussing contemporary plays over a period of eight weeks. Participants were encouraged through drama to engage personal faith and the community of the church. Characters in the plays and the plot were integral to the discussion. In the second chapter, I showed the biblical concepts of discipleship in the Old and New Testaments. In the third chapter, I dealt with the contemporary practices of discipleship training. In the fourth chapter, I made a research through using the survey method with questionnaires. In the fifth chapter, the conclusion is made. All in all, I emphasized that the discipleship training has been tremendously influencing the growth of Emmaus Korean UMC, spiritually and quantitatively. Being recognized by him as persons of value and God-given identity enabled these nonpersons to see themselves as beloved children of God. Since the church often has failed in welcoming the stranger: the homeless, homosexuals, and other marginalized people, a Bible Study was developed that emphasized the lost spiritual discipline of hospitality. This paper examines the impact that the practice of hospitality had on the participants and showed a significant increase in the acceptance of strangers, thus, empowering them to welcome and minister to the stranger."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719204287414272,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:46:21.872Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:11:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:26:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"bf889a77-69b4-438c-8591-f1d62e2efc22","accessControl_ssim":["0947f810-b7a2-444c-8495-5bcf8a86a588"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Closing the backdoor: an exploration of the theological, historical, psychological, and sociological reasons why people leave Churches of the Nazarene in Southern New Jersey"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:11:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:38:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5105b3c5-ff31-4057-abce-82e3773ee2d7"],"hasLease_ssim":["d5cf97d1-4c17-452d-a769-61a91038ab63"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lewis A Parks"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The author studies the historical origins of the denomination and sister denominations to determine the ecology of the Church. Community diversity and postmodernism influence this problem. The author interviewed 68 individuals regarding reasons for leaving churches. Sociological differences, varying stages of faith development, and possible misunderstanding give insight on the gap between pastor and congregants. Rediscovering the communal foundation of the Eucharist may help.
