This work focuses on the context of the educational programs of theological formation of the Church of God of Prophecy in Chile. The purpose was to verify how the local churches have been impacted by the Pentecostal theological formation programs and to find out if the pastors and members who participate in these programs have developed in terms of their spiritual life, preparation to serve and commitment to the local church and its mission. And at the same time to evaluate if the curriculum responds to the needs of the local church and the context where they develop the mission. In order to achieve this purpose, I used documents and reports related to this topic, and interviews with actors involved in these formation processes. Secondly, I used the survey methodology, directed to about 60 students (30 pastors and 30 members), which allowed us to have a representative sample of the population to be studied.I came to the conclusion that the majority of the students surveyed have experienced progress in their spiritual development and commitment to the local church where they serve, however a smaller percentage, but no less important, understands that important changes are needed in the approach of the curriculum."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10246"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1837351752689516544,"timestamp":"2025-07-11T11:59:36.744Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:07:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fb509f6c-f495-461a-9a2f-c27b4c91ee44","accessControl_ssim":["52bab199-3752-484e-958b-06e71fddae92"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Orientación del cuidado pastoral ante el uso y abuso de las tecnologías de información y comunicación en Guatemala"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:07:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["91cb2eba-5c58-4e96-811d-332dd2792122"],"hasLease_ssim":["6d2f4018-c33f-4c57-ace2-cdc8f3532f1b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Guatemala"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Some pastors, leaders, and parents are struggling or failing to provide desperately needed pastoral care to teens due to the abuse of technology. This dissertation seeks to answer the question: “What kind of pastoral care is faithful and effective in ministry with victims of information and communication technology use in Guatemala?” using Richard Osmer's four tasks of practical theology. Based on the knowledge of psychology, sociology and theology, the current pastoral care of adolescent victims of the abuse of information technologies in Guatemala could be guided towards a more faithful and effective praxis. An effective praxis is defined through the proposal of a model of pastoral care by implementing the detection of needs, observation and spiritual accompaniment, transmitting a sensitive, courageous vision, empowering and strengthening the ministry of pastoral care with adolescents and young people."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10250"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1837352266910138368,"timestamp":"2025-07-11T12:07:47.143Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"10c7686d-8a23-4900-ab50-d6ca5b1f53fc","accessControl_ssim":["1ffd146b-557a-4f6f-a4d8-3aa7a49c48c6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Five characteristics that make discipleship relevant and contextual"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:36:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["911549b8-2ee4-48c0-abc6-ecc70507ff81"],"hasLease_ssim":["77eefd77-239f-4ad4-a878-9018ec866889"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alvin Padilla Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Covid-19, global migration, urbanization, secularization, postmodernism, plus social and political uncertainty require relevant and contextual discipleship. This academic exercise uses the participant observation method as a tool to examine current discipleship realities through analyzing scholarly work on the topic and by exploring four discipleship practices in four pastoral networks. This thesis argues that relevant discipleship requires the presence of five characteristics: intimacy, purpose, value, security, and vulnerability.Chapter one explores the problem of irrelevant discipleship and defines discipleship as a relational process instead of as a program or method to be used in churches and denominations. Discipleship is defined as enjoying God’s quality of life beyond doctrinal knowledge as individuals growth in Christ’s character and engage in making disciples. Chapter two explores the biblical framework of discipleship by identifying discipleship in the Old and New Testaments. It also looks at historical expressions of discipleship and theological discipleship models through history. Chapter three reviews discipleship literature, focusing on the work of nine authors across different contexts. Chapter four describes how the participant observant method is applied in this academic exercise among selected literature consulted and pastoral networks observed. Chosen literature fitted the twofold criteria used to select authors: scholarly authors who are pastors and who are involved in discipleship networks. Chapter five presents conclusions produced by this academic exercise; it also provides recommendations offered by the author on how to implement the five discipleships elements presented in this thesis."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10249"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135410579046400,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:38.275Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:09:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ed0d4c88-2ee3-48e3-9886-f155f381c826","accessControl_ssim":["abfcde8d-7824-49b7-ad2f-349ee48171b4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Introduciendo una liturgia pentecostal comunitaria saludable en la Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía en México"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:09:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8478fbfc-92cd-4c0a-a3b7-cb7df16d0e71"],"hasLease_ssim":["9c3e4dc9-4966-4ab6-a300-14bdb2e107ca"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alvin Padilla Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Mexico"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The challenge is the loss of membership due to either emigration to other movements and denominations or opting to not to be a part of any local church body. Thus, as part of the Pentecostal movement, the Church of God of Prophecy in Mexico finds itself in a paradoxical situation in that at this moment it is experiencing tremendous growth while at the same time losing its membership. It is within this paradox that the research strives to under-stand the reasons for said exodus. This project seeks to help reclaim the Pentecostal worship service as the true work of the people, reconciling ancient liturgical practices with the contemporary movement of spiritual renovation, demonstrating that these two are not opposed, but strengthened by one another. Thus, there are many implications of this research. It is the intention of this research to collaborate in the deprivatization of the worship service and place it in the hands of the community of believers. Even though the research focuses on the interests of the COGOP in Mexico, it is also its intent to deconstruct the Pentecostal worship service in general, helping it to eradicate harmful practices that drive away believers. A liturgy which integrates ancient liturgical elements with the Pentecostal movement was proposed and practiced by a typical Pentecostal congregation in Mexico City as a case study. The researcher’s proposal is to offer with this project the preliminary findings of a liturgical renewal in the Church of God of Prophecy in Mexico."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10247"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1837352361424584704,"timestamp":"2025-07-11T12:09:17.279Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:08:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"79c0dda7-42ae-4fab-a7c0-678ec36bf35e","accessControl_ssim":["1e6deddf-557e-4760-9229-e5861927f99a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["La teología de conflicto del Apóstol Pablo : ¿como la historia del Apóstol Pablo camino a Damasco ha influenciado al ministerio pastoral en Boston, MA?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:08:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["82c65e46-7588-49d5-a6fc-a01c56f55608"],"hasLease_ssim":["5f580961-c9eb-42ed-86ca-400fa0c81bfe"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alvin Padilla Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Massachusetts"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Exploring the different alternatives that the text offers, I want to establish why it is important for today to rescue the reality of the importance of how the lack of understanding of this encounter between the Apostle Paul and the neonatological experience experienced by the Apostle, influenced the rest of his religious life, and marked a before and after."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10251"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1837352305701158912,"timestamp":"2025-07-11T12:08:24.136Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:41:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"78fa4f22-a905-4a2e-ab44-4ba7d20547ea","accessControl_ssim":["6f71f923-65f2-4926-809a-ab79717d091b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Evaluación de la eficiencia de los programas de educación y crecimiento Cristiano en la Iglesia de Dios de la Profecía en el Perú"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-11T12:41:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f3bdbf1b-3490-427e-a596-7ae4ef4c373a"],"hasLease_ssim":["4c97f63e-7c2e-4477-81a9-379c3b638abe"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alvin Padilla"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Peru"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The COGOP in Peru started in 1953 in the San Cosme community, La Victoria, Peru. It has been 67 years since its beginning, however, educating and growing the church required some important changes to experience some progressive growth. In 2001 the church had around 14,000 members in Peru and realized that growth was not something that happened spontaneously but should be based on a structured formation to prepare pastors, leaders and members in general. Since 2003, and as part of a strategic plan, the COGOP implemented an operative plan to encourage sustained growth; with goals and contextual emphasis, and to respond to our specific needs to reach our immediate, intermediate, and long terms goals. Its conclusion is that art is a gift which God has given to humankind in order to glorify God and to refresh and strengthen the Christian life. A case is made that we are called to seek out and involve ourselves with works of art as they inform us theologically, enrich us spiritually, and serve as channels through which God may speak.Part Two addresses how spiritual formation takes place in individuals and congregations. The work of Urban T. Holmes and Corrine Ware is used as a foundation for identifying different types of spirituality and for exploring how visual art can assist people in their spiritual journeys. The spiritual discipline of 'Lectio Divina' is re-defined and re-interpreted as 'Visio Divina' for use with visual art.Part Three is a presentation and analysis of actual experiences individuals and the congregation at large in Charlevoix have had using visual art in religious education, corporate worship, personal prayer, and outreach--categories that parallel the spiritual components of Holmes' Circle of Sensibility. Some examples are offered as to how visual art has been used to enhance spiritual formation in the First Congregational UCC in Charlevoix. This project gives evidence that utilizing visual art in more intentional ways will not only bring a renewed sense of spiritual vitality to those individuals who engage it directly, but can move whole congregations through its power to awaken, inform, illuminate, and deepen our life in the Spirit."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135543847813120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:45.370Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:50:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:55:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ea8c2eb6-4f46-4d20-ad0a-ceaf2f7c96e2","accessControl_ssim":["6e8113d0-7cc5-446a-a2d3-bfd76b45cede"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Seeker sensitive worship in a Reformed context"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:50:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:50:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["09a7c315-a8ad-4b37-b9c7-c3049c881245"],"hasLease_ssim":["aa3fabd4-2df1-485f-a24e-864c06e58c40"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1998"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. I give attention to four areas: 1. Increased awareness of God through spiritual direction that is used as a basis for preaching; 2. Increased awareness of self through spiritual direction that is used in preaching; 3. Anecdotal experiences that occur in spiritual direction that can be used as sermon illustrations; 4.
