Chapter 1 introduces the study and includes a thesis statement and an examination of the biographical factors, which influenced Scarborough’s life. This chapter includes Scarborough’s family background, call to ministry, education, pastoral experience, summary, and timeline. Chapter 2 examines Scarborough’s influence as general director of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Seventy-Five Million Campaign, which was a program intended to raise 75 million dollars over a five-year period from 1919-1924, to help finance Baptist efforts in missions, education, and other benevolent work. This chapter presents his influence in development and implementation of a strategy to execute the campaign. Chapter 3 examines Scarborough’s influence as a committee member of the Future Program Commission, which recommended adopting the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program [CP] in 1925. This chapter presents his influence related to the theological convictions he maintained in the area of cooperation. Chapter 4 examines Scarborough’s influence as a member of the Baptist Faith & Message committee, which framed the first Southern Baptist convention-wide confession, entitled the Baptist Faith & Message in 1925. Prior to the 1925 confession, they used the New Hampshire Confession of Faith (1833) and the Abstract of Principles (1858). Chapter 5 provides a conclusion for the entire dissertation and centers on one of the most important concepts espoused by Scarborough during his lifetime. The concept of cooperation was redefined by Scarborough in a way for Southern Baptists that still marks a distinguishing feature of the denomination today. This chapter solidifies the thesis of the dissertation by an examination of how Scarborough utilized his influence to engineer a new direction for Southern Baptist through his efforts on the Seventy-Five Million Campaign, formation of the Cooperative Program and the Baptist Faith & Message.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
public","work_editor
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
b0c19fcc-e5e0-418d-b75e-64caf13ed6f6
376e395c-24c8-4395-965c-04e0d8e4064a
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
The Art of Seamless Pastoral Transition: A Guide For Church Leaders
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
a27df118-1891-4b83-9636-122fec0d3eda
666b0014-fbb2-43ef-afda-47190555c61e
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Parish Focus: Risking Faithfully
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary
Kenneth Woo Ph.D.","Jerome Creach Ph.D.
2022
United States
D.Min. Although he conducted the field work during COVID-19 lockdowns and disruption that goal was substantially achieved. Biblical study, theological reflection, and sociological insights formed the foundation for the author’s development of the training course. That research shaped a congregational survey regarding attitudes to personal evangelism, which in turn fed into an expert sample of ministry leaders and evangelistic trainers. In the light of these inputs the author wrote and piloted a four-week evangelistic training course. Course participant responses enabled the author to make a preliminary assessment regarding the effectiveness of the training course. The author then suggested a trajectory along which he could develop the course, and supplement it with additional support and resources. He also mapped out a ministry plan for the construction of an evangelistic ecosystem within a local church, incorporating an adapted version of the piloted course alongside additional groups and further input. The needs identified in this project regarding evangelistic training were greater than could be met in a short four-week course, but the author identified sufficient reasons for confidence that, alongside further ministry inputs, such a course could play a vital part in shifting a church’s culture in a more evangelistic direction.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
778e5f36-5b1a-4953-81ab-1ff42b0190e7
0f6fbf52-a76e-4422-96c5-88fcf2783550
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Preaching Missionary Discipleship: A Homiletic Response to Declining Participation at Risen Christ Catholic Parish in Denver and the Catholic Church of the United States of America
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
6c00777f-234b-45cc-b7a5-2370fdb2aa8d
8ba8a93e-3f51-4a19-bb65-15cfdaec9dd3
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Preaching
Aquinas Institute of Theology
Gregory Heille OP D.Min.
2022
United States
D.Min. It considers the impact it has had on the Catholic Church in the United States as a whole as well as some specific generations.Chapter 4 offers an in-depth explanation of the acronym “BREATHE” and how each characteristic of that acronym should inform our preaching. It also loosely corresponds each letter to the seven different stages of growth toward missionary discipleship.Chapter 5 and its subsequent appendices provide the statistical data of one Catholic parish where the acronym was implemented in a five-week preaching exercise to reach the most Catholics possible in that one setting. It then considers the response and how that aligns with the statistical data found in chapter three.Chapter 6 offers conclusions to the thesis overall and a recommendation of how to move forward while acknowledging the limitations of this one exercise and the importance of an overall plan to form and send the average parishioner into the world to bring more souls to Christ.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Aquinas Institute of Theology
416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
e00d8f3a-b180-421f-91fc-32057acf887f
75cdd4eb-832b-4ed1-88ec-b0b46910b5c5
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Cultural Constructs in the Korean Diaspora Church Context and the Leadership Challenges They Present to 1.5 and 2nd Generation Korean Women
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
47cdc8c2-d63a-405b-a048-8562ca5e7241
f3f58950-75cc-4cc7-b71b-e41564beb0dc
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Leadership
Tyndale University
Brian Craig D.Min.","Michael Krause D.Min.","Janet Clark Ph.D.
2022
Canada
D.Min. This study is important because it revealed just how limiting and hurtful systems of leadership can be when they are not designed to give opportunities to both women and men. This research study focused on the experiences of Korean Canadian women and created a space for the group to openly talk about their experiences through narrative research, appreciative inquiry, and action research. Findings pointed to cultural factors such as patriarchy, which served to reinforce male-centered spiritual authority, and collectivism, which undercut the women’s self-confidence in speaking up and asking questions and cultivated a dynamic where enough women were more comfortable in upholding the patriarchic status quo. It was clear that the Korean diaspora church must be more intentional in creating leadership opportunities for young Korean women and reconsider the cultural patriarchy that is embedded in the communal dynamic. The research findings were also not limited to the Korean diaspora church context; rather, an examination of how cultural constructs and systems shape perceptions of leadership, understanding of ministry, and of the individual leader is a principle that is transferable to other settings.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Tyndale University
602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
8443914b-a4c5-4ba7-811c-f62296dfa74e
113b0b21-616c-4317-bdf9-27ee7198ef2a
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Developing a Pastor-Led Model Using a Text-Driven Invitation for the Effective Equipping of Decision Counselors at Living Water Church in Gladewater, Texas
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
b83d219c-8205-4090-864c-bb5d3f8fb244
fdd6c34e-7271-418d-a60e-ba353e20a1b4
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Text-driven preaching
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Matt Queen Ph.D.
2022
Texas
D.Min. Yet one genre of biblical literature remains largely unpreached in the local church—the imprecatory psalms. Some notable church leaders have discouraged Christians from praying these psalms in private let alone utilizing them in corporate worship. But if all Scripture is the inspired Word of God, then the imprecatory psalms hold value for both the Christian life and the ministry of local congregations despite the difficulties they present. This project seeks to supplement the available theological literature by preaching the curse psalms in a local church and discerning their homiletical impact. The effect of the Word preached was measured quantitatively through a pair of congregational surveys as well as qualitatively through both weekly focus groups and self-reflection essays. The gathered data indicates a positive correlation between hearing sermons from the imprecatory psalms and 1) a Christian’s intimacy with God in prayer, 2) their appreciation for the power and effect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and 3) the local church’s commitment to confronting injustice. The data also raises concerns about potential negative outcomes when preaching the imprecatory psalms. Drawing upon both positive and negative feedback, the researcher offers guidance concerning homiletical approaches, spiritual benefits, and pastoral cautions when delivering sermons from these oft-ignored texts. The paper ends by applying the project’s findings to Miroslav Volf’s memoir Exclusion and Embrace, a theological reflection on having enemies, in hopes of tracing the initial contours of a pastoral theology of imprecation for the church.
https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing
deposited
Miscellaneous
4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a
open
Metadata Only
rim.ir.atla.com
Etd
work_editor","public
admin
ckarpinski@atla.com
["Etd
d13bfcc6-d8e1-4b77-9846-2bdde674ed89
55df296b-2807-48a2-9d9a-730e3106a3a3
ckarpinski@atla.com
ckarpinski@atla.com
Teaching Students of the Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina How to Develop Text-Driven Sermons
["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8
47b38555-8b20-4957-92f5-fc86786c4720
0a2f7c9a-0449-45f0-86d3-891bbcd1f40f
1
1
Atla RIM
Doctor of Ministry
Text-driven preaching
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary
Danny Bowen Ph.D.
2022
Argentina
D.Min.
