Reaching the younger generations will require a more personal approach than new programs and events. Overcoming skepticism and distrust are key factors in reaching the younger generations. The Five Thresholds Model will increase the confidence of young adults in the overall practice of evangelizing and, more specifically, in the practices of sharing their faith and inviting others to respond. The first section of the project is a biblical and theological study of Christian leadership generally and eldership specifically that locates elder training within Christian discipleship. It then moves on to an integration of the contemporary literature on elder and board training, seeking to combine the best of theologically driven works (such as those by Anyabwile, Rinne, and Strauch) with writers focused on practical concerns (such as Busby or Malphurs and Mancini) as well as secular leadership theorists (such as Kouzes and Posner, Greenleaf, and Carver). The qualitative research project itself focuses on how to train elders using a nine-week small group format. Since elder training is rooted in the growth of character (“Be”), knowledge (“Know”) and practice (“Do”), each week’s meeting included sections on theology, ministry skills, and Christian character. Participant growth was measured by interviews before, during, and after the conclusion of the nine weeks, as well as by observed behavior within the context of the group. The project appendices include full descriptions of the course content that was taught and the readings that were assigned to participants.One of the key findings from this project was the necessity of training elders prior to their invitation to serve as elders, rather than waiting for them to begin service on the board or even before they were asked to serve as elders in the upcoming year. An analogy would be to compare it to pre-engagement counseling, rather than pre-marital or marital counseling. Third, the project director designed a replanter pre-assessment process for online development. Fourth, the project director developed a replanter assessment guide for NAMB to provide local associations and state conventions. Finally, the project director presented the pre-assessment design and assessment guide to the NAMB Replant team for approval. Deuteronomy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry project explored potential issues related to the transmission of faith to the second generation in a small suburban Cantonese Chinese church. It was initiated when the first generation at the church began to age, and the second generation who grew up in the church became disconnected and some even left the faith entirely.Three qualitative research methodologies were employed to investigate the possible factors of second-generation exodus. Ethnographic observation, in-depth interview, and survey questionnaire were implemented. The first two methodologies extended to both the first and second generations at the church to explore their faith status, past experiences and perception of influences by Chinese and Western culture. The third methodology surveyed Chinese churches outside of this church to compare and contrast resulting data.The methodologies were effective in eliciting data useful in recommending some possible considerations of ministries at the church. To produce these recommendations was also a goal of this project. The key conclusion was the first generation must be firmly established as a disciple of Jesus Christ, and live a transformed, holy life. To accomplish the stated project, the project director identified three main goals. Each goal is further divided into phases to reach the stated goal. THe first phase for goal one consisted of research to identify essential discipleship skills and the best practices for connecting and communicating with pre-teens and early teens. The second phase of the first goal was to conduct a survey of the selected leaders to determine self-perceived strengths and weaknesses of the selected leaders in regarding their discipleship skills. The second goal was to develop curriculum for use in equipping selected leaders with essential discipleship skills. The first phase of this second goal was the completion of LeRoy Ford's Design for Teaching and Training. The second phase was to create a curriculum for equipping of essential discipleship skills. The final goal was equipping leaders with discipleship skills. The project director selected the quipping program model in order to achieve the purpose. First of all, the project director researched and studied what evangelism is, what the gospel is, and what the marketplace is through published materials and Interrnet resources.In order to equip the selected church members of New Lord's Church in marketplace evangelism skills, the project director developed a curriculum. Before the curriculum and seminar, the project director implemented a student needs assessment and pre-test to control contents, learning experiences, and educational environment. Also, the project director researched existing evangelism methods and chose the Three Circles evangelism method according to the context of the selected churched members.Due to Covid-19, the project director implemented the seminar on online for four weeks. The project director conducted a post-test to check significant changes after the seminar. Also, the project director conducted a class evaluation survey to check the project director's capacity in curriculum design. Group members participated in a free personality self-assessment that guided their training. After conducting research in the field of evangelism, the project director developed teaching plans that he implemented through sessions designed to equip adults to share the gospel based upon their personality strengths.
