The setting was Oak Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Seven theme sermons on the attributes of God were provided to provide a spiritual foundation for the church family. Seven African style intergenerational Bible studies were created to facilitate the healing, sustaining, guiding, and reconciling of Jesus within the church family. To better understand attitudes about cohabitation, selected young adults were invited into a dialogue. Storytelling, brief counseling, biblical topics, and social interaction were coordinated to encourage group participation and self-learning. At the conclusion of the study, cohabitating couples revealed their decisions to marry or not to marry. Using sermons, devotional manuals, journals, memoirs, letters and other primary source material, the author rediscovers and reconstructs the spiritual theology and spiritual practices of nineteenth-century Unitarians and Transcendentalists. He creatively re-appropriates and re-packages these practices for use by contemporary Unitarian Universalists, including teaching handouts and syllabi for congregational and graduate school classes. The participants experienced transformation of self through self reflection and deeper encounter with the Lord. Their feedback also suggested a possibility of using the program for small groups. I endeavored to solve the couples' conflicts and problems by applying the concepts and techniques of the Imago Couples' therapy based on my survey of the biblical understanding and traditional Korean concept of couples' relation as companionship.
