This is particularly seen amongst those who come to Christ out of a Muslim background. This study began with the desire to increase the effectiveness of discipleship amongst believers from an Iranian Muslim background. It evolved into an exploration of discipleship, its foundations, its meaning, and a pathway that would lead to maturity in Christ. It centered on the question, “How can I help my brother from a Muslim background grow up to maturity in Christ?”\r\nThis question was also affected by concerns about culture. Each culture has its own priorities and concerns, the ways in which people relate, understand each other, and live together. Respecting all people includes understanding their culture. Yet culture is critiqued under the authority of the Word of God. What can be retained, and what needs to be changed, in a culture in which the people are living under the Lordship of Christ? This led to an exploration of the Kingdom of God and His universal directives in discipleship. It includes His unchanging standard of holiness and love. It includes the spiritual battle in which discipleship takes place, in the process of traveling to the Lord’s goal for each disciple, maturity in Christ. It included questions such as, “What is maturity in Christ?” and “How do I arrive at maturity in Christ?” This study proposes to make a start in the discussion of discipleship to maturity in Christ. It presents principles and a pathway towards this goal. Always in view is the application of this process into the lives of dear brothers and sisters who have come to Christ from a Muslim background, of which some examples are included. May this study be a blessing and help to all believers, particularly to those serving believers from a Muslim background.\r\n\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1823054913319469056,"timestamp":"2025-02-03T16:37:28.231Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-01-27T21:37:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-27T21:37:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f4b8a46e-f00d-44c9-b03f-e523f3506309","accessControl_ssim":["fd167429-ab7e-4dcd-a4af-18c85f220b4d"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["A Retrieval of John Calvin's Homiletical Method Applied and Tested for a Modern Context"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-01-27T21:37:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-27T21:37:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7ac3991a-23b3-4d29-a93f-0109c271a586"],"hasLease_ssim":["0bc1b112-25e3-46af-9a3f-ede819a9a256"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University "],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The researcher sought to address that issue through a process of retrieval for use in his modern-day congregation. Looking for guidance from a significant homiletical figure of the past who married his theology to his practice of preaching, this project distilled the homiletical method of John Calvin into a series of nine Homiletical Principles. These Principles were based on Calvin’s sermons, writings, and on secondary research about Calvin. Those nine Homiletical Principles were then applied in a series of sermons preached to the researcher's congregation, where their impact was subsequently assessed using a basic qualitative research design. The research evaluated the impact of those Principles through a series of surveys, evaluations, and interviews to gauge the experience of participants. Through this analysis, it is hoped that by looking back to the past, practitioners will be emboldened to move forward with more confident expositions of God’s Word. Therefore believers are affected in both positive and negative ways in their spiritual formation through the consumption of media. Spiritual formation is seen through the narrow lens of spiritual disciplines. There is a focus on how people at Bethany Church can use spiritual discipline apps to grow spiritually recognizing that neuroplasticity allows for real change in a person. The use of media and spiritual disciplines are explored through surveys and interviews to see how they interact with each other in the lives of believers. Spiritual disciplines are examined from a historical, theological, and biblical perspective. A class was developed to teach each participant about spiritual disciplines. Scientific and generational research is examined in order to understand the dangers and benefits to the consumption of media. Key conclusions of this major project include: the participants did not see a connection between their spiritual formation and their leisure time until it was pointed out to them. Meaning that the idea that their consumption of media might hinder their spiritual formation was a foreign concept. Another key conclusion is that media can and should be used to help people grow in\r\ntheir faith. In this way media can be a positive tool in spiritual formation. A diversity of approaches to spiritual formation are necessary as each generation has unique needs and issues around media and spiritual disciplines."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1821968732873818112,"timestamp":"2025-01-22T16:53:05.836Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-01-21T04:52:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-21T05:01:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6d5e2afe-81d8-4902-a11b-3afd11891e65","accessControl_ssim":["6ef916c5-b18e-4a54-ab09-61c6780f87f3"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Instructor Burnout Cause and Effect and Developing Best Practices for Prevention and Recovery in Three Specific Groups"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-01-21T04:52:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-21T05:01:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d9581512-97df-498b-9928-70bf753e0032"],"hasLease_ssim":["9b6f60bc-3139-44f6-b8ef-4c86555b0498"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University "],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. As part of this project, I conducted an online survey of forty-seven people and interviewed ten people from the 2nd generation Indian Pentecostal diaspora to identify the reasons related to their leaving their respective churches. The study was done over two months, and the results provided a better understanding of the issues contributing to their decision. The survey revealed that the lack of spiritual growth, church politics, and lifestyle issues such as lack of role models and emphasis against wearing jewelry were the primary reasons for the 2nd generation leaving the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicagoland.\r\n\r\nThe study results also showed that while most of those who left the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicago still identified as Pentecostals, they chose to attend ‘non-denominational’ churches regularly. Most respondents agreed that they missed the community aspect of the Indian Pentecostal church but concluded that they would not return to an Indian Pentecostal Church in the future. The interviews focused on gaining data with four research questions: 1) how do pastors describe the kingdom of God is at hand, 2) what challenges do pastors face, 3) what strategies do pastors use, and 4) what outcomes do pastors desire when proclaiming the kingdom of God is at hand to congregations living in pluralistic societies?\r\n\r\n The literature review focused on three key areas to gain a broader understanding proclaiming the kingdom of God is at hand in a pluralistic society: the meaning of Jesus’s proclamation in Mark 1:15, the relationship between the church and the kingdom of God, and the practices of preachers who proclaim the gospel of the kingdom in a pluralistic society.\r\n\r\n This study concluded that greater clarity is needed for pastors who proclaim the kingdom of God is at hand in pluralistic societies. The assumption of this study was that pastors and congregants in rural ministry need to engage their communities with the gospel. This requires the use of the theology of mission. It was assumed that missional theology would prove to be a helpful tool in aiding pastors and congregants in rural ministry contexts to engage their communities redemptively. \r\n\r\nThis study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structed interviews with four pastors who have experience in rural ministry. The interviews revealed seven challenges common to rural ministry: limited resources, lack of pastoral leadership, oversaturation of churches, congregations struggle when the community struggles, defining the role of the congregation in the community, confusion over theological language, and defining the role of the congregation members in evangelism and outreach.\r\n\r\nThe literature review and analysis of the four interviews focused on how the theology of mission can help inform and equip pastors of rural congregations to engage their communities with the gospel.\r\n\r\nThis study concluded that rural pastors often feel isolated and ignored. It also concluded that rural ministry is an area that needs attention from the wider church. Rural ministry is often over-looked, and this results in large areas of the United States being unreached by the gospel. If the church wants to remain faithful to the commands of Jesus Christ, the church must go intentionally to rural, suburban, and urban contexts to make disciples. To address these challenges, this study identified practices that should be implemented by rural pastors, congregation members, seminaries, and denominations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://www.covenantlibrary.org/etd/2023/Shafer_Travis_DMin_2023.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"_version_":1817733528239996928,"timestamp":"2024-12-06T22:56:19.952Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-12-04T18:28:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-04T18:28:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c9002632-7516-4b56-93f7-74b22883ff71","accessControl_ssim":["0c35a376-5231-4212-acaa-3d0a078bcf92"],"depositor_ssim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["library@covenantseminary.edu"],"title_tesim":["Uniting the roles of preaching and shepherding"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-12-04T18:28:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-12-04T18:28:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["26c1ed10-7aa3-4b75-a106-00ed25b3559a"],"hasLease_ssim":["c6c7f316-f2c8-4439-a126-1a03a96db5a8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. As a primary means of God’s grace and an indispensable opportunity to communicate grace and truth, preaching warrants this high ministerial priority. However, the role of preaching can easily separate from the role of shepherding. Staying relationally connected to the practical issues of the congregants creates additional challenges to an already difficult task. Further, the challenge is not only convincing people of the truth of the gospel but is also connecting that truth with common congregational concerns.\r\n\r\nThe literature review focused on three key areas to understand in sustaining a preaching ministry: the union of the preaching ministry with shepherding, leadership and the danger of isolation from a corporate perspective, and the impact of a long-tenured pastorate.\r\n\r\nThis study reached three conclusions regarding the union of the preaching and shepherding: 1. The priority of preaching in the Christian church has stood the test of time, 2. Uniting preaching with shepherding requires deliberate pastoral efforts, 3. The time-honored establishment of relational trust between a pastor and the congregation is integral to the union of preaching and shepherding. \r\n\r\nIn light of the findings, three practices are recommended for pastors: 1. Prioritize preaching as a means of shepherding the flock. 2. Create and implement a strategic approach to unite preaching and shepherding. 3. Commit to a long-term tenure of faithful and relational pastoral ministry.
