This project will be based on the ministry skill enhancement model. The project director will begin by researching the field of apologetics and create an annotated bibliography from resources researched to aid in the design and delivery of apologetic sermons. He also will create a report identifying theological doctrines related to evil and suffering that will serve as essential components necessary to increase understanding of evil and suffering. The project director then will develop a series of apologetic sermons incorporating the essential components identified. He will base each sermon on apologetic principles and will incorporate a specific component deemed necessary for the increasing of congregational understanding of evil and suffering. The project director will preach the series of apologetic sermons at Eastwood Baptist Church. First, this dissertation demonstrates God's preparatory activity in general revelation. The first voyagers to Hawaii had a general knowledge of a supreme being. Second, this dissertation demonstrates God's use of historical events to present special revelation to the Hawaiians through the missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Finally, this dissertation demonstrates the application of research findings toward the writer's present ministry at Puna Baptist Church. These research findings will revitalize Puna Baptist Church's evangelistic strategy. The new evangelistic strategy will utilize the historical fact that the first Hawaiian voyagers had a general knowledge of a later monotheistic supreme being, and this evangelistic strategy will reveal that the religious system was imposed upon the Hawaiians by a foreign entity. As a former research engineer who concentrated on robotics research work for NASA Johnson Space Center, I aim to integrate my science and ministry background by using this book as a tool for apologetics and evangelism. This bilingual pictorial guide contains seventy full color pages with over one hundred color pictures or photographs; the companion DVD is a narrated commentary. It presents the latest findings on fine-tuning in the universe through astrophysics/cosmology from a theistic worldview and quotes from prominent scientists who support evidence for the cosmic fine-tuning of the universe. The target readers are educated ethnic Chinese. Thirty pre-published prototype copies were printed; volunteers were recruited to evaluate the book and DVD from Clear Lake Chinese Church and four other congregations in East Asia to form a broader test base. Pre-test and post-test questionnaires were distributed with the book and DVD. A total of one hundred and twenty-three test samples were collected. They needed a foundation in apologetics to engage people in prolonged spiritual conversations. The declaration of the self-existent and transcendent creator God in the opening statement of chapter one functions as the theological cornerstone of all biblical revelation. The theological framework and biblical doctrines from Genesis 1-3, set a stage of God's historical and eschatological plan for all humanity. With the socio-political openness and rapid economic growth that has recently occurred, more Chinese people have become capable of going overseas to study, vacation, work, or migrate. Many intellectuals and new immigrants have experienced Christianity and the culture of local Chinese churches in the United States. College campuses and their surrounding cities have become new 'mission fields' where evangelistic apologetic work becomes imperatively and strategically significant. A study of Genesis 1-3 focusing on biblical doctrines will help Chinese intellectuals and immigrants to reevaluate their embedded Chinese traditional thought, philosophy, Confucianism and atheistic worldview.
