This project focuses on the development of a tool for premarital counseling that addresses this problem. This report examines the use of such a tool with several couples from the pastor's congregation. Benedictine values of stability, obedience and conversion are interpreted for a church community. The context is a small suburban Episcopal church beginning a new ministry with their recently arrived priest. In various group feedback sessions, listeners expressed their understanding of how Benedictine values can shape the spiritual life of the church community and become part of its vision. Postmodern Presbyterians long for more balance, order, community, and intimacy with God. The thesis of this project is that these Benedictine practices can provide balance, order, community, and intimacy with God for Presbyterian faith. The project followed the lives of eight Christian lay persons as they sought to embody Benedictine practices over a period of thirteen weeks. Qualitative research methods were used, principally through taped interviews.
