The study evaluated ministry to children, reviewed Free Methodist theology of the Lord's Supper, examined the practices of other denominations with regard to children and Communion, and analyzed how children learn. A curriculum, combining storytelling, the use of objects, wondering questions, play, drama, and music, was developed and tested in two Free Methodist churches. The writer argues that 'invitation' to play with the tradition is more important than 'indoctrination' with correct answers. The paper begins by examining the Scriptures and the history of interpretation to show that there is room for a wide variety of interpretations and approaches to the Scriptures. From there the paper examines developmental theories to highlight the nature of children and the gifts children bring to the study of the Christian tradition. Special emphasis is placed on the gift of imagination. Finally, these insights are brought together to suggest ways the whole congregational community can work together to invite everyone to bring their own special gifts and abilities to the task of making the faith their own."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133962606739456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:27:37.381Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:35:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:09:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4684e080-3004-458a-beff-11a7606f6e5f","accessControl_ssim":["162e6b53-3a90-4ff1-904b-41a2d957318b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The catechesis of adults through the sacramental preparation of their children"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:35:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:11:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ab3facb5-748f-4ae9-aa38-f1a98b149381"],"hasLease_ssim":["8938a8de-2289-4725-bddc-27e48b5b3adc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Drew University"],"advisor_tesim":["Mary Dennison"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Peter R Loving"],"publisher_tesim":["Drew University Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education of children","Sacraments","Catechetics","Children","Parent and child--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Catechesis is integral to development and maturity of faith.
