The support group described in this study was church-based and culturally sensitive. This study also provided training for church-based support group to help victims immediately after the disaster.The research methodology of this study included both quantitative and qualitative analysis of 45 earthquake victims and 13 church-based support groups co-workers. The results of the research suggested that Christian belief may have a positive effect towards recovery for victims of earthquake. In addition to surveying seminary students, pastors who experienced the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake as well as pastors who lived through the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and seminary professors who train next generation pastors were interviewed using co-inquiry and a 360-degree data gathering approach.  Managing stress, loss, relationships, compassion fatigue and burnout were common challenges. However, members remember being 'the church' in the aftermath of the April 1974 tornado when they served their community face to face. In this project, the author explored if meeting a mission recipient face to face, hearing their story, and photographing them would enable members to see the image of God in someone who is very different from them. Thus, their confidence in providing this care is low. The thesis hypothesized and argued is that the project based upon this thesis would show that an intensive five-day curriculum with a three-month follow-up program would increase the confidence level of the participants. The five-day curriculum trained the participants in intensive disaster emotional and spiritual care leadership.
